Romance Historical

Charlotte, Baroness Mardenford, can't help herself. Although she's sparred frequently with Nathanial Knightridge, she heads to his home alone in an entirely inappropriate visit because she knows of the torment he must be feeling. Although wealthy, Nathanial has devoted his law career to representing men on death row, and she knows he's in torment over a lost case and the man's death.

Charlotte marches in to Nathanial's home, despite his butler's attempt to keep her out, spouting talk of her women's reform movement, knowing that will distract him. Only it's Charlotte who becomes distracted as Nathanial uses his well-honed talent with women to kiss her senseless.

What Nathanial doesn't know is that he and Charlotte have a past. Charlotte, in a moment of daring that doesn't fit her public persona, dressed up and attended a scandalous party, where she was promptly seduced by Nathanial. Luckily (for Charlotte, anyway), he never realized who he was with because she was wearing a mask.

But as the two begin to spend more time together, Nathanial can't help but notice the attraction and he finally puts two and two together.

I always rave about Ms. Hunter's books and this one is no exception. I love the way she weaves characters in from her other books (although each stands alone), and I particularly admire her skill in making those characters real. I liked Charlotte immensely, and Nathanial is a good man, despite his well-known rogue status. I highly recommend reading every one of her books! She is one of my favorite authors.
