KEEP ME CLOSE is the second book in Cynthia Eden's Lazarus Rising series. This story has some of my favorite elements from previous Cynthia Eden books -- a crazed killer on the loose, and a retooling of the "Frankenstein" story. Although KEEP ME CLOSE isn't populated with any of Cynthia Eden's ferocious yet delicious vampires and werewolves, she does include some badass super soldiers with psychic abilities. For readers new to this series, Cynthia Eden brings the reader up to speed on what Project Lazarus is all about and who the main players are.
As soon as Flynn Haddox appears in KEEP ME CLOSE, he makes it clear to everyone what kind of man he is and how important Dr. Cecelia Gregory is to him. Flynn comes in like a force of nature and declares that Cecelia is his. In reality, Cecelia was only his psychiatrist while he was in the Lazarus program, but the sexual tension between them goes through the roof. Bryce King is a nightmarish and twisted version of Flynn. Both men want Cecelia, but for very different reasons. Cynthia Eden illustrates why she is a master of psychological suspense as she sets up the cat and mouse game between Bryce and his many targets.
Even though Flynn is incredibly possessive of Cecelia and aggressive when it comes to his enemies (just about anyone who threatens Cecelia), he is not a jerk. Flynn shows that he can back off when Cecelia needs a little breathing room. Plus -- for a jacked up super soldier who has probably perfected "resting Wolverine face", he utters some of the most swoon-worthy and romantic lines directed his lady's way. As Flynn and Cecelia lock lips and battle evildoers in KEEP ME CLOSE, the action and suspense never obscure the love story.
KEEP ME CLOSE is a roller coaster ride of amazing from start to finish. There so many supporting characters in KEEP ME CLOSE that intrigued me -- like Benjamin Larson, Jay Maverick, and Willow -- that I hope to read more about in future books. I look forward to the next sexy spine-tingling romance by Cynthia Eden.
