The Song of the Soul Mate -- according to Granny Blue Alzate the women in her family know their true love if when kissed they hear a humming. Well of course modern women think this is just a bunch of hooey but those with a healthy respect for Native American folklore know better. I am definitely a member of the latter. It was these beliefs and family folklore that somehow kept the indigenous Native American's lives full of wonder and richness.
These are the best stories ever. And lucky for us Lori Wilde has just enough of these bits to keep us happy in MILLION DOLLAR COWBOY.
MILLION DOLLAR COWBOY is a story about going home. Ridge Lockhart left Silver Feather Ranch and his family in Cupid Texas ten years ago. Determined to make his own mark in the world and he succeeded. His silver mining equipment invention made him an important name in that industry. Ridge has done well for himself but coming home meant facing a lot of skeletons he had been determined to leave dead and buried. Ridge's best friend Archer was getting married so in honor of that event he had to come back. Plan was simple -- fly down for three days and leave.
Here's the thing about finding your soul mate -- it doesn't necessarily happen when it's convenient. Life is unpredictable and mostly doesn't strictly adhere to a plan. Kaia know that from firsthand knowledge. Life events can definitely after your perspective.
Ridge's road had many bumps mostly caused by family relationships. One of four brothers that had different mothers but shared on irascible father. Still to this day Ridge just seeing eye to eye with his father so returning home albeit for a very short time is just begging for confrontations.
Kaia seems to be the only one that can reach Ridge on any personal or emotional level. Sad for Kaia because she has to face the hard facts that Ridge is not going to stay -- and she is not going to leave her home.
It's going to be up to Ridge to see if he can visualize a life with Kaia because he is beginning to realize he can't live without this woman who anchors him.
MILLION DOLLAR COWBOY is an interesting study of building relationships and what makes a family. Lori Wilde creates honest characters whose main flaw seems to be that they are down to earth. Through her engaging dialog Lori Wilde has the reader build a fondness for these characters whose humanity jumps off the page. The characters in MILLION DOLLAR COWBOY are slated to become some of your favorites. Kaia has found her place in life. She didn't settle but more like settled in. Ridge is the exact opposite. He has found enormous success but he hasn't found his place. Whether or not Ridge admits it his one subconscious goal perhaps is always just beyond his grasp. Kaia's greatest wish is for Ridge to realize that what he really wants is possible and does not depend on success or wealth.
