Romance Contemporary

Evie Abbey lives in Hollywood and is enjoying success as an agent for 5 star celebrities. She works at P&D for Brad Kingman, who is head of Features. He is a difficult boss. Condescending, sexist, holds grudges and not an easy person to admire. It is Friday after a long, hard week and Evie is headed to a Halloween Party given by friends, Steph and Michael Christopher. Her BFF Daryl was supposed to attend the party with her but backed out at the last minute. Evie attends as Hermione, a Harry Potter character. At the bar, Evie meets Carter, whose costume is Harry Potter and they laugh but agree it is no coincidence. This is a set up by the host and hostess. They have much in common. Carter is also an agent recently moving from New York where he worked at Creative Talented Media (CTM), a competing talent agency. Their chemistry is explosive. Carter asks Evie to call him and Evie wonders how they could ever have time for a relationship when they both work 24/7.

Surprise, Surprise when they are told their companies, Price & Dickle and CTM are merging. Carter is offered a position in Features by his new boss, Brad Kingman. Brad tells him, however, P&D may not be able to renew both his and Evie's contract in LA. The fight is on for that slot and the race begins with no holds barred. After much back stabbing, dirty tricks, and a breakdown in their affection, they decide to band together what discoveries they find. The finale steals my heart.

My favorite author(s) Christina Lauren never disappoints. I always fall in love with the lead male character and Carter is no exception. His sense of humor is pure delight and he is HOT! Hot!! Hot!!! The delicious plot is sometimes sweet, sometimes sexy, a true look at life, and careers in La La Land. Brother Jonah is fun and so is MC and Steph Christopher and their sweet, toddler daughter, Morgan, who MC claimed "has more social like than we do." It is easy to hate Brad...he is a bad dude. Evie and Carter are delicious together and a romantic comedy that is easy to read and easier to love.

SUMMARY

Everyone knows that all’s fair in love and war. But these two will learn that sabotage is a dish best served naked.

The first standalone romance by New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Christina Lauren (Beautiful Bastard) is a sexy, compulsively readable romantic comedy that dives headlong into the thrill and doubt of modern love.

Despite the odds against them from an embarrassing meet-awkward at a mutual friend’s Halloween party, Carter and Evie immediately hit it off. Even the realization that they’re both high-powered agents at competing firms in Hollywood isn’t enough to squash the fire.

But when their two agencies merge—causing the pair to vie for the same position—all bets are off. What could have been a beautiful, blossoming romance turns into an all-out war of sabotage. Carter and Evie are both thirtysomething professionals—so why can’t they act like it?

Can Carter stop trying to please everyone and see how their mutual boss is really playing the game? Can Evie put aside her competitive nature long enough to figure out what she really wants in life? Can their actor clients just be something close to human? Whether these two Hollywood love/hatebirds get the storybook Hollywood ending, or just a dramedy of epic proportions, you get to enjoy Christina Lauren’s heartfelt, hilarious story of romance in the modern world.
