BETWEEN A WOLF AND A HARD PLACE is book seven in Terry Spear's Silver Town Wolf paranormal romance series. All of the books in this Silver Town Wolf series are fun to read, but I think that BETWEEN A WOLF AND A HARD PLACE works as a standalone novel as well. This book is a little different from other books in this series because the hero and heroine are casually dating already when the story opens. The challenge for werewolves Ellie MacTire and Brett Silver is to see if they can take their relationship to the next level, build on their attraction, and make something extraordinary and lasting. Having been burned in the past, Ellie's hesitancy in telling Brett about her ghost whispering abilities and worry over his reaction is holding her back from making a final commitment. This is a perfect book for anybody who enjoys small town romances, great characters, and a good ghost story.
Brett Silver carries on Terry Spear's tradition of writing smoking-hot nice guy heroes. Brett has alpha werewolf charm and Clark Kent sweetness, combined with an adoration and dedication to his wolfy ladylove that make him hard to resist. There is a mystery in BETWEEN A WOLF AND A HARD PLACE, and it surrounds the ghost of Brett's late great-aunt Matilda. I love how Ellie and Brett work together and try to solve the mystery of why Matilda's ghost is at the inn that Ellie runs with her sisters, and what really happened to cause her death. My favorite type of romance involves the hero and heroine on the same page, working to solve a puzzle together, and forging a close bond just as Ellie and Brett do. I liked that I was still trying to figure things out right up until the end, just like Ellie and Brett, when it came to deciphering the unresolved issues from Matilda's past. Other ghosts, snow storms, and assorted mischief-makers occasionally conspire to obscure the truth.
BETWEEN A WOLF AND A HARD PLACE is a sweet and sexy small town romance with a paranormal twist. Terry Spear injects enough humor to balance the ghost mystery and minor relationship conflicts to make a highly entertaining story. While Ellie and Brett advance their relationship emotionally by day, their sexy shared dreams give free reign to their burgeoning desire for each other at night. As with any werewolf romance by Terry Spear, family and pack unity is a feature of BETWEEN A WOLF AND A HARD PLACE and that's a big part of what makes this book, and this series, so amazing. I hope to read about Ellie's sister, as well as other supporting characters, in future books. I eagerly await the next Terry Spear werewolf romance.
