BE MINE IN GOOD HOPE by Cindy Kirk is the perfect winter romance! Kirk does a perfect job introducing the characters in this well-paced, character driven novel. Marigold Bloom arrives at her sister's New Year's Eve party where she talks with a few friends. She senses that a man that she met at a wedding a few months ago is nearby. Marigold smiles with anticipation as she sees Sheriff Cade Rallis heading her way. The undeniable attraction between Marigold and Cade drew me into the story. The reader knows that the couple met at a wedding and had a one night stand. I enjoyed reading the couple's journey from lovers to friends; it's a fun, refreshing twist to the second chance story!
Fired from her job at a top hair salon in Chicago, Marigold has returned home. She tells her sisters, her father, friends and Cade throughout the novel that she is only staying in Good Hope temporarily. Marigold's goal is to work as a stylist in New York or California, she's not a small town girl.
Cade worked for the Detroit police department before he arrived in Good Hope. He loves the small tight knit community of Good Hope so much that he has decided to run for the sheriff position.
I loved the scenes where the couple meets at the Friday Night Skate night and when they decide to date. Cade and Marigold are talked into running an afterschool first grade scouting group. Their first meeting doesn't go as planned and it was fabulous to read how they decided to work together to help their group successful. The author does a fantastic job weaving in the members of the Bloom family throughout this novel.
The couple's relationship becomes more serious as the annual Valentines dance approaches. I appreciated that Cade realizes he made mistakes in his past relationships and made an effort to communicate his feelings to Marigold. Cade loves Marigold. He realizes that her dreams and his are different. The couple suffers a serious setback during the dance. The conclusion to BE MINE IN GOOD HOPE surprised meβbut was absolutely perfect for the couple.
Celebrated hairstylist Marigold Bloom knows how to tease beauty out of chaos…until her own life becomes untamable. After losing her prestigious job in Chicago, Marigold returns home to Good Hope, Wisconsin. But her plan to lay low and consider her next move is complicated by an unexpected blast from the past. Sheriff Cade Rallis has never forgotten the blissful weekend he spent with the irresistible Marigold in Door County. Seeing her again is like a one-two punch to his heart, and he knows he can’t lose her a second time. Marigold never meant for her stay in Good Hope to be permanent, and she certainly never meant to fall for Cade. As Valentine’s Day approaches and her dream job beckons, will Cupid’s grip on Marigold be strong enough to keep her in Good Hope? Or will the lure of fame and fortune in the big city prove impossible to resist?
