If you've never read a Sabrina Jeffries novel and you consider yourself a fan of Regency Romances, you are simply missing out. She is one of the best of the genre, and with her grasp on characterization and historical detail, I know that I am in good hands whenever I pick up one of her novels. Even ones that are not home runs are solid base hits compared to so many others.
THE DANGER OF DESIRE, I'm a bit sad to say, was just a base hit for me. It paled in comparison to the previous books in the series as I just didn't connect to either Delia or Warren as much as I should have. The conclusion to the mystery - which lord among the posh ton has the telltale tattoo of the man who cheated Delia's deceased brother out of his fortune - comes fast at the end, not in proportion to the slow build up it got in the rest of the book.
I am nearly positive the lord in question is the hero in an upcoming book, he gets far too much attention and sympathy to not be taken further, so the conclusion of this book feels a bit more like a set-up for future books than a full conclusion to this one.
This book is in no way bad, per se. It's perfectly lovely, a good read, and a solid regency. However, when I laud someone as highly as I laud Jeffries, mediocre feels like a let down. I'm anxious for her next work already as this one didn't quite whet my whistle.
