BECAUSE I'M WATCHING

Madeline has the worst luck in the world. When Madeline was in college, a stalker killed four of her friends in their dorm room, Madeline was saved, but just barely. Shortly after that assault, she met the man of her dreams, Easton. One day while she's upstairs writing, Easton, comes home from his travels. When she hears a noise and goes to check to see what is going on, Madeline finds Easton dead on their kitchen floor. She's suspected of his murder. Madeline moves out of their home but still feels that there is someone watching her. Is it her imagination or not?

Meanwhile Jacob lives in his own nightmare world. While in the service, he was the head of a group of very smart kids. One night, while he was sleeping, he was wakened by one of the kids to let him know that several had gone out but none of them had returned. Jacob goes looking for them and he is captured by the Koreans. Jacob is brutally treated, both mentally and physically. They are rescued but Jacob still feels responsibility for the ones that lost their lives so all he does now is try to get up the courage to kill his captors.

Jacob has been holed up in his home, until one day his neighbor Madeline drives her car right into his front door. What a way to meet. All of a sudden, Jacob's life is changed as he no longer has the little house to himself, because of the crash, there are people coming in and out of his house. Little by little Jacob and Madeline form a bond, trusting each other more than they have ever trusted anyone.

All I can say is WOW. Christina Dodd has done it again. Combining not only heart-pounding suspense but adds in romance. What more can a girl want? I started reading BECAUSE I'M WATCHING and could not but it down. Who WAS watching Madeline? Never would have guessed the ending because it kept me in suspension the whole time I was reading. I love when I get a book like BECAUSE I'M WATCHING and can't figure out all the twists.

And be ready, Dodd includes a rich background of character stories. There is the county sheriff Kwinault whose love life isn't so great, maybe a book on her would be next. In the meantime, be sure to take BECAUSE I'M WATCHING with you on vacation, or just sit on your couch and enjoy.

SUMMARY

She had survived, but she is still held captive...

Of her memories, her loneliness, her delusions. But are they truly delusions?

The survivor of a college dorm massacre, a woman accused of her lover's murder, Madeline Hewitson is haunted by ghosts and tormented by a killer only she can see. At night, she works, writing and drawing the monster that slithers through her imagination, and living in fear of those moments when the doors of her mind unhinge and her nightmare lives in the daylight.

A seasoned military veteran, Jacob Denisov lives alone in his small, darkened home, sleepless, starving, and angry. Every day he lives with the guilt that comes from his own failures and the carnage that followed. When neighbor Madeline Hewitson drives her car through the front wall of his house, she breaks his house--and his life--wide open. Forced to view the world outside, Jacob watches Maddie, recognizes a kindred spirit and wonders what she fears more than herself. Has someone caught her in a twisted labyrinth of revenge and compassion, guilt and redemption, murder and madness?

When Maddie's imaginary killer takes form, she fights, screaming her fear and defiance. But will she be strong enough to triumph, or is the killer she fears no more than a shadow, an illusion ... that watches?
