Romance Paranormal

DARK CAROUSEL is Book 30 in Christine Feehan's Dark series. DARK CAROUSEL is a great book for readers new to Christine Feehan's Dark series to dive into. One of the supporting characters in this book - Blaze -- appears in the short story "Dark Crime" from the anthology EDGE OF DARKNESS, so it might be a good idea to at least read that story before this one. Christine Feehan combines carousel imagery that is both strangely beautiful and at other times terrifying. In addition to the satisfying love story, DARK CAROUSEL tells a story of a strong family fighting together against the forces of evil.

Tariq Asenguard hooked me from the start because it is amazingly clear from the first moment he comes into contact with Charlotte that he is all about making his woman happy and protecting her along with those they both care about. Other Carpathian men might have the same priorities, but I like Tariq's style and the way he expresses his feelings for Charlotte. Tariq's strength and sexual charisma tempered with the gentle way he treats Charlotte makes him a great hero and my favorite type of Carpathian hottie. Tariq makes Charlotte aware of the dangerous realities they are confronted with but he's not as aggressive in his delivery as some other Carpathian men might be. I like that Charlotte is able to see the big picture and not give Tariq too hard a time about his methods of protection. I really like the way Tariq and Charlotte's personalities mesh and how they work together as a team.

DARK CAROUSEL is such a fascinating story for me because I love that there is a strong family unit and army of good guys on one side and an army of thoroughly despicable bad guys on the other. Even the children in DARK CAROUSEL are fighters and they and the psychic women are not discounted from being warriors. The scenes in which Tariq and his makeshift family offer each other support are particularly poignant and just as powerful as the epic battle scenes, and the more romantic and erotic moments between Tariq and Charlotte. This is a book that will have you cheering the characters along.

DARK CAROUSEL is a lush and deeply sensual romance with a story that has an energy and excitement that is infectious. The scenes involving dragons are especially enchanting and create a vivid and joyful image. The friendships between the women in DARK CAROUSEL add depth to an already engaging story. I can't wait to see what's in store for some of my favorite supporting characters in DARK CAROUSEL in future books.

SUMMARY

In the new Carpathian novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan, a woman falls prey to the seductive allure of the past—and a vampire warrior’s intoxicating embrace... The moment Charlotte Vintage walks into his club, Tariq Asenguard’s blood is set on fire. The ancient Carpathian had given up hope of finding his lifemate, but now he will do anything to make Charlotte his own. What Tariq doesn’t know is that Charlotte is using herself and her best friend as bait—to try to draw out the bloodthirsty killers who have already murdered Charlotte’s brother and mentor. Charlotte is familiar with Tariq. Not only is he one of the richest and most eligible bachelors in the city, but he’s also a renowned collector of old carousel horses, which Charlotte restores. Their shared passion opens Charlotte up to trusting him with her life and with the desire she can no longer control. But it also makes her vulnerable to a centuries-old curse that will unite her and Tariq in a war against the enemies of humans and Carpathians alike...
