One of the most delightful things to me in a romance is when friends/side characters become a tribe of framily. I love watching folks that continuously choose each other find strength in the bonds that come with it. It's why I'm drawn again and again to series of books rather than stand alones. I will say I hope it serves as a kick-off to another one of her delightful and thorough treatments of a group of friends.
DON'T TEMPT ME focuses primarily on one couple and secondarily on another. The primary couple is Jason and Honor, the secondary being Sullivan and Lexie. Honor buys a house in a fixer-upper type of neighborhood and her best friend Lexie helps her move in. In that process, some of the lads from the neighborhood jump in to lend a hand, and romance is born.
As we get to know Honor, we learn that she's had a hard life and has learned to rely almost entirely upon herself. Letting others help her solve her problems is a struggle, and she has to decide if that's weakness or strength. Intimacy - both emotional and physical - have not come easy to her and Jason is the first dude who makes her want to change her barriers. Jason, for his worth, is used to taking care of folks, but getting Honor to trust him is a bigger challenge than originally thought. Luckily for her, and all of us, they find their happily ever after.
Sullivan and Lexie think they're just having a fling. Both of them are one- and-done type folks, not looking for attachments. But there's something about each other that keeps them coming back. We don't get their full story in this one, I don't feel, even though they end on a happy note.
DON'T TEMPT ME is a fun read and overall enjoyable. Would recommend for anyone who like Foster's style, but is tired of a focus on MMA.
