Buckle your seatbelts because the trip back to Easterly will
be a ride of a
lifetime! J.R. Ward delights readers with the second book in
the Bourbon
Kings series. As readers return to the grand
mansion of Easterly, they will
soon discover things that make the events in the first book
seem almost like
playtime. Ward cranks up the family drama and adds a heady
dose of
scandal to go with it. There are plenty of jaw-dropping
moments, moments
that really make your head spin and I just loved how Ward
was able to
deliver each punch to the gut. The execution of this story
is truly flawless.
Although many readers expected this to be Edward's book, a
lot of other
characters get some page time as well. Ward returns to Lane
and Lizzie,
further deepening their characters and romance. Gin has also
gotten herself
into a messy situation and although I may have disliked her
character for a
little bit in the first book, I'm growing to like her more
and more as the series
goes on.
But I think a lot of readers are looking forward to getting
to know Edward. As the eldest Bradford son, many are
wondering why he
hasn't gotten involved with the family drama, but Ward
eases him in slowly,
and in a way that is purely Edward. He's a man of dark
desires and as we've
seen in the previous book, he likes to indulge in his vices
whenever he can. I
don't want to say who his heroine is because I think part
of what makes his
story so great is that you can't really tell what he's
thinking. He's the biggest
mystery of the series and with the situation with their
father's suicide and the
whereabouts of the family's money, that's saying something.
Ward's writing enchants. Not only does she offer lush
descriptions and
deliver numerous twists and turns in this book, but her
characters are
constantly growing. As the reader discovers secrets about
each character,
Ward is easily able to switch gears, making the good guys
seem bad and
vice versa so we never really know what's going to happen next.
I think readers of the Black
Dagger Brotherhood would absolutely love this
series. It has the same elegant touch that the popular
Paranormal Romance
series has, but this is just set in a Contemporary world.
The characters are
both cocky and vulnerable, and they almost have a timeless
feel to them that
I think will appeal to readers of all ages. This is
definitely a series you need
to read in order.
THE ANGELS'SHARE exceeded my expectations. You won't find
another
dysfunctional family that you wish you were a part of more
than the
Bradfords. Paired with the mystery and slow-burning romance,
the series
only seems to get better.
#1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward
delivers the second novel in her Bourbon Kings series—a
sweeping saga of a Southern dynasty struggling to maintain a
façade of privilege and prosperity, while secrets and
indiscretions threaten its very foundation…
In Charlemont, Kentucky, the Bradford family is the crème de
la crème of high society—just like their exclusive brand of
bourbon. And their complicated lives and vast estate are run
by a discreet staff who inevitably become embroiled in their
affairs. This is especially true now, when the apparent
suicide of the family patriarch is starting to look more and
more like murder…
No one is above suspicion—especially the eldest Bradford
son, Edward. The bad blood between him and his father is
known far and wide, and he is aware that he could be named a
suspect. As the investigation into the death intensifies, he
keeps himself busy at the bottom of a bottle—as well as with
his former horse trainer’s daughter. Meanwhile, the family’s
financial future lies in the perfectly manicured hands of a
business rival, a woman who wants Edward all to herself.
Everything has consequences; everybody has secrets. And few
can be trusted. Then, at the very brink of the family’s
demise, someone thought lost to them forever returns to the
fold. Maxwell Bradford has come home. But is he a
savior...or the worst of all the sinners?
