Detectives Moira Cavanaugh and Davis Gilroy find themselves outside the same cemetery at dawn one morning. Each of them is here for a different reason. Davis is bringing flowers to his parents' graves, and Moira is out for her usual morning jog. They meet briefly as Davis is chasing two individuals away from the cemetery. One runs into Moira, knocking her to the ground. Davis stops long enough to help her up, but then pursues the two perpetrators.
Moira's curiosity is peaked, so she takes a quick look in the cemetery. Finding a grave has been disturbed, Moira gets permission to investigate for twenty-four hours, but not a minute more. Moira manages to convince Davis to get permission to join in her investigation. She takes that task on herself with his Captain, and off they go back to the cemetery. Their pursuing investigation is trying for Davis, who isn't very forthcoming and talkative, but Moira moves full speed ahead.
Marie Ferrarella brings us another delightful romantic suspense with CAVANAUGH OR DEATH. Ms. Ferrarella's Cavanaugh clan is a force to be reckoned with, and Moira is another strong character in this series. The verbal banter between Moira and Davis is very playful and moves the storyline along quite well, making you yearn for more. Davis has experienced many losses in his life and has closed himself off from people. Moira is determined to bring him out of his clam shell and back into the human race. We revisit some previous characters in CAVANAUGH OR DEATH, as Moira needs a little help from her very large family in moving this investigation along quickly. However, each of Ms. Ferrarella's novels can stand alone as great reads. There's no need to have read all the others, but Cavanaugh Justice is a great series.
