BIDDING ON THE BILLIONAIRE is book one in JM Stewart's Seattle Bachelors series. BIDDING ON THE BILLIONAIRE opens with two people who are anonymously intimate online taking the leap to meet in person. The hero and heroine in this erotic tale are separated by the differences in their bank accounts but first and foremost, for me, BIDDING ON THE BILLIONAIRE is such a very human and moving story about moving past fear and finding love. The sexual tension in those first two chapters, as Hannah and Cade decide to meet for the first time and then eventually do, is divine and totally hooked me.
Having BIDDING ON THE BILLIONAIRE told from alternating perspectives gives the reader a better understanding of the two main characters and makes them seem more sympathetic. What starts out as a strictly physical bit of great erotica morphs into something much more as the emotional intimacy between Hannah and Cade grows. JM Stewart does a fantastic job of building anticipation and capturing heat and intensity between the hero and heroine. I like that Hannah and Cade are able to bond over both being burned in relationships in the past. Hannah's trust issues go a little deeper than Cade's because of her physical scars. Cade is an extremely wealthy and good looking guy, but I love that he is very self-aware and has a tender side. It is Cade's underlying sensitivity and secret longing for love that make him such a terrific and sexy billionaire hero.
BIDDING ON THE BILLIONAIRE is an exceptionally sensual romance with emotional punch, and characters you care about. Although Cade's critical parents loom in the distance, they really aren't a factor and strong presence in BIDDING ON THE BILLIONAIRE. The epilogue in BIDDING ON THE BILLIONAIRE puts a nice cap on a fun story. JM Stewart does a wonderful job of weaving the supporting characters into the story to become an intriguing part of the story without cluttering things up. I look forward to reading the next installment in this Seattle Bachelors series to see what's in store for Hannah's friend Maddie, Cade's sister Christina, and his best friend Sebastian.
Hannah undid the locks with shaking fingers and pulled
the door open, too stunned for a moment to do much more
than take in his tall, broad form leaning in her doorway.
He had on his pajamas, too, baggy, blue plaid pants
hanging low on his hips, a plain white T-shirt, and, of
all things, running sneakers.
She darted an obvious glance down his body and raised her
brows. βLast minute decision?β
Phone in one hand, he hitched a shoulder, nonchalant. As
if he showed up on womenβs doorsteps in his pajamas at
midnight all the time. Something hot and promising
flashed in his gaze, though, and her stomach dipped in
the most exquisite way. βSomething like that.β
A sense of vulnerability washed through her chest, and
her smile fell. She ached to jump on him, to wrap her
body around him and drag him inside. She couldnβt deny
the sight of him filled her with joy to near bursting. βI
didnβt think Iβd get to see you tonight.β
βMe neither.β He pushed away from the doorway and stepped
over the threshold. βI hadnβt intended to come over.
Prepping for tomorrow took longer than I expected, it got
late and I thought for sure youβd be sleeping. But I
couldnβt go to sleep without seeing you.β
βIs that why you havenβt called in two days?β She hadnβt
meant to ask him that, but the expression on his face and
the tension mounting between them nagged at her.
Something was off. Sheβd heard enough excuses over the
years from guys backpedaling their way out of a date to
know when someone avoided her. Sheβd rather Cade be
honest with her.
He remained silent, his gaze searching hers. Great. She
sounded like a jealous girlfriend.
Cade took another step, closing the door behind him and
moved into her personal space. So close every time she
inhaled, his scent invaded her nostrils.
βNo. Youβre right. Iβve been avoiding calling you. You
make me crazy, Hannah. Iβm in meetings I need to be
paying attention to and all I can think about is you.
Almost getting caught the other day scared the hell out
of me. You want the truth? I donβt do crazy or impulsive.
I do safe. I do whatβs expected of me, and I do it well,
because itβs expected of me.β
He lifted a hand, stroking her cheek, awe in his gaze as
it worked her face.
βBut with you? I find myself dreaming up ways to rock
your damn world. Like fucking you in a public place,
because I know, deep down, it turns you on. I donβt take
risks like that, but I like making you happy. Getting to
watch you is the most erotic thing Iβve ever seen, and
your smile afterwards was all the reward I needed.β
He cupped her face in the warmth of his huge hands.
Hannah was helpless to do anything but stare. His
heartfelt words had hit their mark. Cade McKenzie was a
good man, and she was melting beneath the power of him.
βSo no, I hadnβt intended to come over tonight. I wanted
some time to get my head together, but in the end, I
couldnβt stand it. I had to see you.β
