COME ON CLOSER is Book 4 in Kendra Leigh Castle's Harvest Cove series. Harvest Cove's least wanted bachelor, Shane Sullivan, is sweet on bakery owner Larkin O'Neill. After reading the first book in this Harvest Cove series, I didn't much care for the wise-cracking, tactless hottie who is Shane. However, seeing Shane through the eyes of his friends over the course of the series made him grow on me. In COME ON CLOSER, Kendra Leigh Castle takes an already appealing character and makes her shine and takes another character and gives him an unforeseen complexity and depth of feeling.
Kendra Leigh Castle triumphs again at capturing the magic and excitement of a burgeoning romance. The attraction between Shane and Larkin is palpable and like a live wire. I like having the story told from both perspectives because it gives me a better understanding of the main characters. Shane's pursuit of Larkin is adorable and the sexual tension is amazing. The banter between Shane and Larkin is amusing and exemplifies how perfectly matched they are.
Happily for me, the primary source of conflict in COME ON CLOSER is external to the romance. Shane and Larkin work together, and make more sense as a couple than they originally thought. What they both have in common, and what drives them insane, are their atrocious family members. I love that the hurdles their families present only serve to strengthen their relationship and increase their intimacy and intense connection. The family drama adds to the overall emotional kick of COME ON CLOSER without distracting from the romance.
COME ON CLOSER is pure bliss for romance fans. If you're not reading the Harvest Cove series, you should be. Shane and Larkin's friends add texture to COME ON CLOSER and make an already fabulous story even greater. I'm dying to read Fitz's book and hope his story is next.
