Maple sap is running in Chilson, MI, and Minnie is taking out the bookmobile and visiting all her customers. Henry Gill is a gruff man who never says anything nice, but he presents Minnie with some maple syrup. When Henry dies unexpectedly, Minnie is saddened.
The man who tried to help Henry suffered a sudden heart attack during the attempt, and while open heart surgery saves his life, he is housebound until he recovers. With his wife working two jobs, he needs all the reading material he can get. Minnie is visiting Adam when someone tries to run him down with a car. Only through Minnie's quick reaction does he escape certain death. As other attempts are made on Adam's life, Minnie becomes more certain Henry's death wasn't an accident. Minnie and Eddie, the bookmobile cat, are on the case.
For people who like cats in their cozy mysteries, the Bookmobile Cat Mysteries are not to be missed. Minnie has long conversations with Eddie as they travel the county. She has some great friends, but her love life is stagnating since her current boyfriend is studying in Chicago. When a local detective asks her out, Minnie is forced to re-evaluate her life. I've love this series since I read the first book because it's peopled with some great characters. Ms. Cass does a great job of maintaining the continuity of the series. Each plot is fresh and takes the reader on a journey as we watch Minnie succumb to the urge to just ask a few questions. Not that she ever stops there!
