Romance Paranormal

In book eight of The League series by Sherrilyn Kenyon, I knew from the very first chapter that this was going to be a book I enjoyed. First of all, the premise of this story is one that I haven't encountered before. Fain Hauk and Galene Batur were bound to love each other for eternity. However, Fain disgraced Galene when he decided to leave her for a human. With their engagement called off, Galene was pushed into the lower ends of society, having to deal with scrutiny and judgment. She vowed that if she saw Fain again, she would make him pay.

If you've read Kenyon's books before then you may be familiar with her special talent of displaying characters one way and then slowly revealing the truth in another. In doing this, she changes what you thought of the character so while Fain may have left Galene for another woman, he isn't the womanizer that others believe him to be.

Another secret is revealed with Talyn's character. As the son of Galene, he is as fierce and protective as his mother is of him. I really enjoyed his character. He offered a great source of humor but also strength and determination. Learning more of his backstory helped to evolve his character and made me love him even more.

In this second chance love story, Kenyon creates a believable romance, highlighting the guilt and remorse that Fain feels for doing what he did. This packs an emotional punch and when paired with the world politics and the action, it makes for a very engaging read.

BORN OF BETRAYAL is an emotional and riveting read. If you're looking for something of a different pace in science fiction, The League series is a must read.

SUMMARY

Years ago, family loyalty caused Fain Hauk to give up everything he loved: His military career. His planet. His fiancée. Even his name.

Now decades later, everything has changed. He's built a new life out of the ashes of his old, and he's vowed to never let anything threaten his loved ones again.

But when old enemies align themselves with new ones, he's caught in the middle of a brutal war. And when fate throws his former fiancée back into his world and she has her own agenda that includes taking his head for what he did to her years ago, more than just his life is at stake. The fate of the Ichidian universe and that of his brothers-in-arms hangs in the balance. Winner take all.

It's killed or be killed, and never has the battle been more fierce...

Or more fun, in Born of Betrayal, the next League: Nemesis Rising novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon!

Spot on Review.
I agree a 100% :).
The follow-up from Talyn's book and the setting for the
next is superb. Pure Kenyon style.
Am anxiously waiting for the next book with Dagger's
story. :)
