Calista Chance Holland gets the opportunity of a lifetime in
Katharine Ashe's AGAIN, MY LORD.
Tacitus Everhard, the Marquess of Dare, fell in love with
Lady Calista Chance six years ago. Tacitus assumed he was
courting Calista--he never said the words out loud since he
thought Calista understood his feelings. Calista made a huge
mistake when she asked Dare to help her run away from her
parent's home. Dare was hurt and refused Calista's request.
She wasn't able to explain why she needed his help or
apologize to him because Calista was forced into marriage by
her father. Tacitus' heart was broken when he learned of her
marriage.
Six years later, Calista Holland meets her sister, Lady
Evelina, at an inn that is a day's carriage ride from her
home. She intends to send her son Harry to Dashbourne, her
family's estate with her sister for an extended visit.
Calista has been entrusted to deliver a rare statue of
Aphrodite to her mother. Harry is waiting outside the
inn when he is almost trampled by a horse. Calista
recognizes that the person who pulls Harry out of the way is
the Marquess of Dare!
Katharine Ashe is a fabulous storyteller. Her characters are
original and her writing is lush, lyrical and very romantic.
I love Ms. Ashe's heroes and I adore Dare. He was smitten
with Calista when they first met and was deeply in love with
her even six years after their last meeting.
AGAIN, MY LORD is a second chance at love story told with a
magical twist. The story works as it enables Calista to mend
her relationship with Dare and allows the reader to
understand that she was powerless in her earlier position
with Dare. The cat, the never-ending rain and the smiling
statue are clever symbols that the author uses to add depth,
and a dash of fun to the story. Serious undertones and
social commentary are woven into the storyline. I loved the
honest dialogue between Dare and Calista. Although always
true to their characters, underneath the back and forth
banter the conversations between the hero and heroine are at
times very emotional and sad.
Kudos for Ms. Ashe for taking a chance and creating a story
with mystical and supernatural elements. I enjoyed Dare and
Calista's love story it's filled with humor, a bit of magic
and lots of romance!
