THE CEO BUYS IN is Book 1 in the Wager of Hearts series by Nancy Herkness. This is an unusual story for me because of the type of wager that the billionaire bachelors make. I haven't read many romances in which men are so desperate for genuine love and affection. Given their wealth and status, these men are cynical about the odds of finding women who want them for themselves but that is exactly what they yearn for on a deeper level. Although the wager between Nathan Trainor and his fellow billionaires Gavin Miller and Luke Archer sets things in motion, the focus of the story is on Nathan and Chloe rather than the wager itself.
I like the spin that Nancy Herkness puts on the classic "billionaire" and "dating the boss" romance themes. Office temp Chloe Russell and billionaire Nathan Trainor are both flawed characters that have been unlucky in love, and have had relationships with their fathers that have strongly influenced their lives. Chloe's conflicted emotions over sleeping with her boss are understandable, but Nathan is so wonderful that I would have cracked long before she did. The secondary storyline involving Nathan's estranged relationship with his father gives him added depth. Likewise, Chloe's conversations with Judith help readers understand her a little more.
THE CEO BUYS IN is such a compelling story full of passion. While reading along, I alternately swooned from the jolt of sexiness, and teared up over the poignant moments. Although Chloe and Nathan haven't known each other long before things become intimate, Nancy Herkness does a great job of making the chemistry believable. The intimate moments are hotter because you care about the characters and their relationship. I love how intense Nathan's feelings are for Chloe and his desperation for her to love him the way he has fallen for her. I always love it when the hero falls hard for the heroine.
THE CEO BUYS IN is a sizzling romance that will have you hooked from beginning to end. There is a nice balance between steamy scenes and character development. The emotional vulnerability of the hero makes THE CEO BUYS IN fascinating to read. I look forward to reading the next installment in this Wager of Hearts series by Nancy Herkness.
Self-made billionaire Nathan Trainor feels restless and disillusioned. His company may be thriving, but he canβt find a woman who sees him for more than his wealth. With his love life in the red, he meets two other billionaire bachelors at the ultra-exclusive Bellwether Club. The three of them make a wager of the heart: they must find women who love them for who they are, not their money.
Savvy office temp Chloe Russell is trying to scrape together the money she needs to support her grandmother. So when a flu epidemic strikes Trainor Electronics and sheβs promoted to Nathan Trainorβs assistant, she jumps at the lucrative opportunity. But then Nathan himself falls ill, and he and Chloe must work from his penthouse while he recuperates. Before long, itβs clear thereβs genuine heat between them, and itβs more than just a fever spike. Will Nathan win Chloeβs heartβand the bet? Or will their differences destroy any chance for love?
