DYING TO DATE is Book two in the Fated Match series by Victoria Davies centered on a dating agency for supernaturals. I think DYING TO DATE can still be enjoyed by readers who may be new to this series. Victoria Davies is brilliant at crafting interesting tales about people who are natural enemies, or who should be enemies, and have them fall in love. Melissa Redgrave and Tarian Drake would normally never run in the same circles in society. She is a vampire and he is a necromancer, and in the world Victoria Davies has envisioned in DYING TO DATE, the two races are highly antagonistic toward each other. The chance meeting they have at Fated Match sizzles as they instantly fall in lust with each other.
I like that DYING TO DATE is told from both points of view. Tarian has to make some tough choices and bluff some villains in order to keep Melissa safe, and knowing his true thoughts helps the reader understand him. I love Tarian. Even though it puts him at odds with family members and other necromancers, he tries to be a pacifist and negotiate peacefully for better treatment for his people. Time and again he shows courage and loyalty in DYING TO DATE. Tarian is a sexy, strong and intelligent hero who treats the heroine with respect and is a wonderfully complex character.
Victoria Davies has the romance between Melissa and Tarian take lots of twists and turns before they get a happy ending. What starts out as a somewhat light and sexy romance, erupts into a fiery inferno of need and desire with danger nearby. Smack dab in the middle of this paranormal romance is a "on the run" story very reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest. This plot turn adds a lot of excitement to the story and bonds Melissa and Tarian together. They are forced to trust each other, even when Melissa has excellent reason to distrust Tarian.
DYING TO DATE seethes with sexual tension and excitement. Melissa and Tarian are a little like Romeo and Juliet except sexier and they have a happier ending. I love DYING TO DATE and adore Victoria Davies. I can't wait for the next book in this Fated Match series!
