I loved one of Carrie Ryan's earlier books, The Forest of Hands and Teeth, so I was curious to see how she would handle a revenge thriller. I was not disappointed as DAUGHTER OF DEEP SILENCE is everything I hoped it would be!

Frances has assumed the identity of Libby, a friend she acquired on the Persephone- and the friend she watched slowly die as they drifted on a lifeboat, waiting for a rescue that wasn't even looking for them. Her anger is palpable and permeates each and every carefully planned action. Frances has lost everything, and assuming Libby's identity only increases her distance from everyone as she fears disclosure by the boy who loved Libby. Carrie Ryan does a marvelous job at creating empathy for Frances, even as her actions turn criminal.

DAUGHTER OF DEEP SILENCE is a dark disturbing, and heartbreaking tale of love and loss. Carrie Ryan draws the reader into Frances' despair and pain, while showing the hope that glimmers if only she would stop to see it. The ending is a bit anticlimactic as it is Frances' own inner journey that is the true heart and soul of DAUGHTER OF DEEP SILENCE. DAUGHTER OF DEEP SILENCE is easily recommended!
