Mystery Amateur Sleuth

Hannah Ives is so real her character just about jumps off the page. You want to laugh, cry and curse right along with her. Any questions why she is considered a survivor are answered in the first several pages. She has strength -- inner strength and the ability to laugh at herself so you the reader feel very comfortable with her life's adventures. And boy does she have adventures. In THIS ENEMY TOWN Hannah Ives is reacquainted with a woman whose accusations forever changed her life. So once again Hannah has to take a deep breath and forge ahead. The opportunity arises giving her the chance to confront this woman and realize that the accusations had indeed been false. Armed with that knowledge and sense of relief she is now free to proceed with life and her remarkable relationship with her husband and the rest of her family. But once again fate steps in and shakes up her world. The story takes place in and around the Naval Academy and introduces the human character of this military institution. The academic and social activities of the potential candidates for positions in the armed forces are seen in a more care free light then usually portrayed in stories. Hannah gets to meet many of the students as they rehearse for the academy production of Sweeney Todd. She also becomes very aware of problems that abound in the academy. Marcia Talley wrote a very tight story involving a murder on the campus of the Naval Academy. As clues begin to materialize and the mystery unravels, Talley takes you along with Hannah as she discovers that appearances aren't always what they seem -- and people aren't always what they seem to be. Clues and allegations are plentiful but only the truth will bring justice.

SUMMARY

Hannah Ives is always ready to support others like herself who have been through the gauntlet of fear and uncertainty that a diagnosis of cancer often brings. So when friend and fellow survivor Dorothy Hart asks for help building sets for the Naval Academy's upcoming production of Sweeney Todd, Hannah readily agrees. But it means associating with an old foe -- a vindictive officer whose accusations once nearly destroyed Hannah's home life. And when one corpse too many appears during a dress rehearsal of the dark and bloody musical, Hannah finds herself accused of murder -- and enmeshed in a web of treachery and deception that rivals the one that damned the "Demon Barber." Caught up in a drama as sinister as any that has ever unfolded on stage, Hannah stands to lose everything unless she unmasks a killer before the final curtain falls...
