Fox Arada is on vacation. He's taking a couple of days off from the daily battle that is his life. As a Watcher his duty is to keep the peace and when a terrified woman flies through his hotel door followed by men who are definitely not friends, he does what he does. He uses deadly force and reveals himself to her. He has just committed a FORBIDDEN RESCUE, but one he had no choice in.

Jubilee Spector just wanted her brother off drugs and away from the drug dealers, so busting their operation seemed like a good idea until she is forced to run for her life. When the most gorgeous man she has ever seen cuts down the two men with tooth and claw. She is suddenly introduced to a more dark and dangerous world than she ever imagined.

But she holds a secret that she doesn't even know she has... but it will change everything.

FORBIDDEN RESCUE is a short story that is the beginning of a new and in my opinion fascinating series. Fox is a kitsune and he works for a Nephilim (Enoch), a Demon (Kincaid), and a Witch (Sage), all Watchers. The whole set up is explained in the beginning of the book as author Heather Long lists the characters and gives a glossary of terms which I appreciated. I got a kick out of Fox who tries very hard to be a gentleman and he is funny, though I am not sure he is meant to be. I was laughing when he was trying to figure out what the healer meant when she tells him that Jubilee might need OTC for the pain she is in. The twist that is Jubilee's secret is one Ms. Long throws our way that is completely unexpected. As I said this is a short story, only seventy-three pages, with a few things left in the air, and a number of secondary characters that I want to learn more about. I guess it is safe to say I can't wait for The Watchers book two!
