Fame, medals and money are great but according to ONE
WISH Robyn Carr's latest story based in Thunder Point, a
place that has become very familiar and dear to her fans,
not everyone wants to bask in the glory for their entire
life. Get ready to catch up with several friends from
past tales from not only the Thunder Point series but
also from Virgin River.
Reading one of Robyn Carr's books always brings a smile
to my face. Her characters are delightful and their
relationships are enviable. The closeness of their
friendships is the stuff dreams are made of -- not many
are that fortunate. But it's interesting to note that
Carr understands that and doesn't make it too easy to
establish those alliances. Anything worthwhile is worth
doing well. At times there is a great deal of uncertainty
as to whether a relationship has staying power. And that
is definitely the case in ONE WISH.
Grace Dillon has enormous confidence in her abilities on
the ice, after all she is an Olympic champion and the
darling to many fans young and old. Her personal life
suffered due to the tremendous demands of training for
the games and other competitions. Add to that a very
demanding mother who had once dreamed of being a champion
but never quite got as far as her very talented daughter.
Grace's mother was determined that Grace not squander her
amazing talent.
Grace had other plans for her future and it absolutely
did not include anything to do with the world ice skating
competition. That is how she wound up in Thunder Point
finally a new peace and identity in a flower shop. Grace
brought to her shop the same tenacity and drive that she
had in the ice rink. But she was delighted that her
anonymity gave her a chance to live a normal life in a
small town filled with people who seemed happy to make a
new friend and were so very inclusive.
Enter Troy Headly a single high school teacher who
admittedly liked to have fun. Grace was kind of delighted
to spend time with this man who was rather like a man/boy
when it came to fulfilling his desire for fun. Troy was
just getting over having his delusion of love squashed.
He had no desire to repeat that terrible waste of time.
So he was delighted to meet Grace who was a wonderful
candidate for a friend.
Grace held her secret past close to her vest and felt
relief that no one in Thunder Point recognized her. In
the end her past would inevitably come out but even then
Grace rejoiced in the sense of community that had become
home. But everyone knows eventually you have to face your
past and make peace with it. That is going to be Grace's
greatest challenge.
It's always a joy to delve into one of Robyn Carr's tales
of life and love. I try very hard to not miss any. I
would be remiss in saying that ONE WISH does not fill my
favorite slot in this series which has captured my heart.
But I never miss anything by this prolific wonderful
author. ONE WISH has some interesting attention grabbing
characters. Troy and Grace's story somehow takes second
place to the stories of many supporting characters and
that's okay.
