Karen Ranney starts a new series with this first installment of IN YOUR WILDEST SCOTTISH DREAMS.
Glynis MacIain has known the man she has wanted to marry since she was a little girl. Lennox Cameron holds her heart in his hands- tall, strong with broad shoulders and black hair, his smile steals her breath away. Glynis has held her affection in for as long as she can, and one night she decides to show Lennox her true feelings with a kiss. But when Lennox fails to return her feelings Glynis is humiliated and flees to London to marry a man who hold no where near the same affection as Lennox.
Seven years later, Glynis is returning to her home of Glasgow, but she is far from the naive girl she was when she left. She is now a widow- having been married to a diplomat, Glynis is used to the world of politics where a mask is always required. Things have changed, her family and its business are in trouble and Glynis doesn't know how to help. She also as to confront the man who as always held her heart. Glynis is a professional at masking herself since her marriage, but coming back home to Glasgow- and Lennox- threatens that mask from the moment they meet again.
Lennox Cameron is the master of shipbuilding, and with the Civil War at its height, many are counting on his genius to build the best and fastest ship available. While Lennox is a master at ships, Glynis has always been a mystery to him. The girl he knew is no longer a girl, and he was surprised when she kissed him and then left for seven years. Now Glynis is back, and she is not the girl he knew- this new Glynis is a mystery to him. A mystery he doesn't want as his business is facing it's most important moment, but a mystery he can't help wanting to solve. As Glynis and Lennox are thrown together, can they solve the mystery of each other?
Karen Ranney always weaves an intriguing and captive story. Karen's heroines are women who have been taken to their lowest point, and have to find their way back in their world, and find their place in it. Having such strong heroines requires a hero who can handle her strength. The interactions between Ranney's characters is a treat and you always look forward to their exchanges and the building of their relationship. Glynis and Lennox show that true awkward tension of former sweethearts meeting again- and the chemistry they can't resist as they learn to renew their relationship as adults without the blush of youth. This series is a delight, and I can't wait for the next installment in the series.
Seven years have passed since Glynis MacIain made the foolish mistake of declaring her love to Lennox Cameron, only to have him stare at her dumbfounded. Heartbroken, she accepted the proposal of a diplomat and moved to America, where she played the role of a dutiful wife among Washington's elite. Now a widow, Glynis is back in Scotland. Though Lennox can still unravel her with just one glance, Glynis is no longer the naïve girl Lennox knew and vows to resist him.
With the American Civil War raging, shipbuilder Lennox Cameron must complete a sleek new blockade runner for the Confederate Navy. He cannot afford any distractions, especially the one woman he's always loved. Glynis's cool demeanor tempts him to prove to her what a terrible mistake she made seven years ago.
As the war casts its long shadow across the ocean, will a secret from Glynis's past destroy any chance for a future between the two star-crossed lovers?
