Valentine's Day is only a few weeks away, and Ryan Ashton
hates that holiday. One of the reasons being that she had
to put her horse down that day when she was 11, and that
she now has no boyfriend with whom to celebrate. She
works with her good friend Gregg Phillips, and Gregg asks
her if she has anything planned for V-Day. As neither of
them has a romantic outing planned, he asks her out to
dinner and to watch some very unromantic movie; she
declines.
Gregg is a nice and very hot guy, and Ryan secretly
wishes he'd look at her as more than a friend, but she
cannot picture him liking the very conservative self she
projects; she has unfortunately once been told by a
former boyfriend that she was boring. Ryan suddenly
thinks of asking Rock Canyon's fashionista Gracie, who
briefly dated Gregg; she could help show Ryan how to
dress and act sexy and stop being so dowdy and dull. And
it sort of backfires...
THE TROUBLE WITH SEXY first appeared in the Kiss Me
anthology, and I think it is a brilliant idea to
release it as a novella. It's a special treat to Codi
Gary fans, it's great as a standalone as well as being a
great introduction to the Rock Canyon series.
THE TROUBLE WITH SEXY is a fun twist on makeover stories;
it's lovely and unpretentious but in no way inane. There
is such great chemistry between Gregg and Ryan, and the
progression from friends to lovers is entirely
convincing. They have an easy and comfortable
relationship as friends, especially apparent in their
verbal exchanges, which are almost too honest, which make
for some rather amusing banter. I also liked the
accidental friendship that blooms between Gracie and Ryan
and their true-to-life girl talks.
THE TROUBLE WITH SEXY is a lovely and sexy read, very
well written, and the story flows so well, it's over
before you know it! I highly recommend it!
Fact: Ryan Ashton has never been the hottest girl in the
room. Prim and proper doesn't really lend itself to sexy,
but Ryan's okay with that. She's come to terms with her
perpetual single status. Or at least she would have, if it
weren't for her deliciously gorgeous boss.
Fact: Gregg Phillips is sex on a stick. And Ryan knows
that
if she wants him to sit up and take notice of her, she's
gotta take a chance … and ditch the frumpy librarian look
she's been rocking for way too long.
It's gonna take a whole new wardrobe and the help of the
local sex kitten to make it happen, but Ryan's up for it.
After all, true love is worth the trouble—and that's a
fact.
Excerpt
Great, now the guy was going to think she was some kind of
weird voyeur.
Once inside, she moved passed Gregg's desk to her own,
sliding her jacket off and over the back of her chair. She
walked back to the little kitchen area and pulled a Coke
from the fridge. A picture of Gregg and Mike from New Year's
caught her eye, and her whole body tingled as her thoughts
drifted to their one and only kiss.
She'd been standing in the corner away from everyone,
holding a glass of champagne in her right hand, wearing
black wool pants, a silver satin button-up top, and her
plain black cardigan. She'd only showed up because Stephanie
Brown had caught her in a weak, lonely moment, and she
didn't want to spend the evening in her I Love Sushi pajamas
with a bag of chili-flavored Fritos in her lap.
