LETHAL CONSEQUENCES is book two in Elisabeth Naughton's
Aegis Security series. Too often, I think romantic
suspense books fall prey to completely unbelievable plots
that pull me out of the story. LETHAL CONSEQUENCES does a
fantastic
job of inducing me to keep my willing suspension of
disbelief, keeping me immersed in the nonstop action and
nail-biting tension that carry me happily through the
story.
Civilian Olivia Wolfe was kidnapped several months ago
during an op that went bad for her sister Eve, who is an
operative with Aegis Security. Fellow Aegis operative
Landon Miller was the one to find Olivia locked in a cell,
and he can't stop thinking about her for months after the
rescue. He texts her, and they end up communicating by
phone or text daily, growing slowly closer. Olivia has
decided she's in love with Landon, and shows up at his
Barcelona hotel room to surprise him just as he is leaving
Aegis to go back to his clandestine work for the
government. Olivia wants to convince Landon to pursue a
romantic relationship. While Im'm not usually a fan of
one
half of a couple trying to convince the other to pursue a
romance, Naughton totally made this work for me, and I
found myself rooting for Olivia to break through stoic
Landon's defenses.
When Olivia unexpectedly arrives at Landon's room, she
finds him with a sexy redhead in his room. His supposed
one-night stand, however, turns out to be a member of a
terrorist organization out to extract information from
Landon regarding a lethal bioweapon. Landon and Olivia
are
kidnapped by the terrorists, and thus begins an exciting
cascade of danger and adventure. There are a few red
herrings that I fell for, that heightened the drama even
further. I love it when that happens!
The sex is steamy and heart pounding, and the thrills and
intrigue of LETHAL CONSEQUENCES show why Naughton is the
queen of romantic suspense. I've been a longtime fan of
Elisabeth Naughton, and I think LETHAL CONSEQUENCES is one
of her
finest works to date. The suspense keeps getting tauter,
and the mystery combined with romance make a swoon-worthy
ending.
