Debbie Macomber has written another heartwarming story about angels coming to earth to help their human charges. Guardian angel, Harry Mills, is on his first mission on earth and is finding humans to be a bit of a challenge. He assumes that everything is as kind, peaceful, and easy as they are in heaven.
First, he must meet with Celeste. She is his Angel Mentor who will make sure he does what he is supposed to while on Earth. She is much younger than him, looks like a wild teenager and Harry has a hard time dealing with the fact that she is basically his boss. He's on earth, posing as an English teacher at the local college, so he can help Addie straighten her life out, and hopefully find love for her also.
It is Harry's first time on earth so there is lot of adjusting for Harry as well as Addie. Addie has returned home after the death of her father. She left six years earlier, after dropping out of school and arguing with her father. Addie was determined to find success away from home, but has failed. Her mother welcomes her back home before Christmas, but informs Addie that she is going on a Christmas cruise with her friend and neighbor, Julie, who is also a widow. Julie is the mother of Erich Simmons.
Erich, the one person Addie dreads meeting again, is living right next door. Addie was infatuated with Erich when she was younger. Erich frequently made fun of Addie. He was downright cruel to her. She has never forgiven him for the deep hurt he caused. Erich is upset about his accident and now he needs to lean on Addie for support. Could it get any worse? Can they survive being in the same room? For two weeks while their mothers are away? The situation is hilarious, trust me!
Once you start reading MR. MIRACLE, you will find yourself laughing out loud at these two! Both Addie and Erich have old feelings that are rekindled over the holidays. Is it the admiration or the fighting and bickering from the past? Can they get over their past and learn to like each other to survive the next two weeks?
The romance between Addie and Erich is nicely done with just the right touch of magic - this is a Macomber Christmas novel after all! The writing style flows smoothly and MR. MIRACLE is an easy quick read. The writing is descriptive and I could feel the preparations of Christmas and the cold weather like I was right there. The characters are well rounded and I became emotionally invested in them right away. When Harry meets the French teacher, Michelle and experiences infatuation for the first time, I was giggling out loud. Poor Harry, didn't know what hit him! MR. MIRACLE is another wonderful Christmas story by one of my very favorite authors.
