Marisa Lopez works two jobs because she still needs $70
000
to send her gravely ill daughter Izzy to a clinic in
Switzerland, the only place where a costly experimental
treatment is offered. Marisa's best friend Inga talks her
into getting well-paid jobs at the First International
Conference on Pornography in Grand Keys Island Florida;
it's only for a short term and it means more money for
Izzy.
Sigurd Sigurdsson, a medical doctor, has been assigned to
attend the same conference. Sigurd is a vangel, a vampire
avenging angel, and his duty is to protect humans and
other vangels from the nefarious Lucipires, demon
vampires. A lot of sinners and would-be sinners will be
attending as expected, and he must see to the safety of
the attendees' souls. Marisa is reluctantly considering a
lewd proposition from a porn producer, until Sigurd
smells a rat, or rather lemons, and takes upon himself to
prevent Marisa from making a grave mistake. It doesn't
hurt that they're both inexplicably attracted to each
other.
Anyone who has read any of Sandra Hill's Deadly
Angels books is already laughing: the mere idea of
porn and vangels being mentioned in the same sentence
means guaranteed hilarity, and does the author ever
deliver! Ms. Hill provides all the necessary background
for readers unfamiliar with this series, and everyone
better be prepared for side-splitting adventures with
those randy vangels.
The characters are extremely well-defined, and Ms. Hill
is a true artist at world-building, blending elements of
theology, Viking mythology, and vampires seamlessly in a
very solid and coherent story. The banter, double
entendres, and verbal sparring between Sigurd and Marisa
are hysterical, and worthy of a classic comedy skit.
VAMPIRE IN PARADISE could well be Sandra Hill's funniest
book ever, but we should not overlook how talented a
writer she truly is: the story moves along quickly, and
in spite of the zaniness, everything makes perfect sense.
The characters are priceless: the vangels are unique in
more ways than one, and the descriptions of the
participants in the conference and the goings-on are
hysterically funny, completely outrageous, even more so
than I thought it could, which is saying quite a lot. I
particularly enjoyed one specific thing: it takes a long
time for Marisa to be convinced of what is really
happening, to believe that the vangels are for real; I
found very refreshing that she didn't just take
everything for granted right away and didn't fall for
Sigurd at the drop of a hat. VAMPIRE IN PARADISE is a
riot from beginning to end! I very, very highly recommend
it!
The vangels are back in Vampire in Paradise, the
latest in Sandra Hill's bestselling Deadly Angels
series
It's been centuries since the Norseman Sigurd
Sigurdsson was turned into a Vangel—a Viking Vampire
Angel—as punishment for his sin of envy, but he's still
getting the hang of having fangs that get in the way when
seducing women. Slaying demon vampires known as Lucipires
and using his healing gifts as a cancer research doctor,
Sigurd is sent to Florida's Grand Keys Island as a resident
physician . . . where he encounters a sinfully beautiful
woman.
The only hope Marisa Lopez has of curing her
five-year-old daughter is a pricey experimental procedure.
When she meets the good-looking doctor, Marisa is
speechless. Then Sigurd tells her he believes he can help
her daughter. Could this too-hot-to-resist Viking doctor be
an angel of some sort sent to bring a miracle for her
daughter? Or is he just a vampire bent on breaking Marisa's
heart?
