Kate Fenelli arrives home to Valentine Valley, Colorado just as the decorating begins for Christmas. Kate is an attorney in a large law firm in Vail while sharing the responsibility for her 13-year-old son, Ethan, with her ex- husband. Divorced from Tony De Luca, owner of a tavern, neither has managed to find love with anyone else in the nine years since the divorce. If only this was just another vacation for the career-driven woman rather than being placed on a sabbatical over a difference of opinion with the firm in dealing with a client. Kate has always been about principles and doing things ethically and correctly.
Kate and Tony have created a very workable schedule co- parenting Ethan. He spends weekends in Vail with Kate and weekdays with Tony. As her time in Valentine Valley continues and she spends time with her family, she accepts a joke challenge from Tony to work in his tavern as a server to keep her from boredom. The challenge soon brings them in a closer proximity than either anticipates. The heat is still there and turns them on like no one else can. The community busybody widows even quickly recognize something is going on between the couple no matter how hard they try to hide their ex-sex agreement. Both realize they have missed the love and meaningful sex they once shared. Family and friends can easily see what's happening no matter how hard they try to hide it. Just as Kate is having second thoughts about her decision years ago and plans to declare her revitalized love, Tony pulls away, fearing another broken heart upon her return to Vail and her high profile job.
I absolutely love the Valentine Valley series with all the wonderful and warm hometown residents. They all look out for each other and are always willing to be there when trouble comes around. Emma Cane certainly knows how to draw at the old heartstrings. She is a genius at creating her emotional and caring characters that are oh, so hard not to love. I am first in line for all her new works, especially this particular series! Just keep them coming, Emma!
