Eliza Hayward and her daughter have arrived in a town two hours from Boise, Idaho, where the wind sweeps between a lake and the Redemption Mountains. The view is stunning, but a bitter wind is blowing sleet in her face. Maybe this wasn't the wisest time of year to take up a job offer in Haven Point. There's worse to come...
SNOW ANGEL COVE is the latest book from an author I enjoy, RaeAnne Thayne, and as I'd expect the challenges for her leading female are fast to arrive. Eliza sees that the hotel employing her has burnt to the ground. Fortunately nobody was hurt, bar some smoke inhalation. Eliza and young Maddie are welcomed, but the hotel will be closed indefinitely. She's quit their apartment and packed up their life, so... now what? Would you believe the day isn't over yet as a driver finds his SUV skidding on ice and heading perilously fast towards the little family.
Aidan Caine, owner of a tech firm and a house at nearby SNOW ANGEL COVE, is devastated to have struck a young woman with his rented vehicle. He calls 911 and does his best to help, including reassuring the child. Neither the town's new lady mayor nor the police officer seem impressed by Aidan. Although shocked himself, after sorting out the legalities he slowly drives towards the local hospital, determined to do the right thing. Eliza's not keen on accepting his help however. What could she have against him?
While this is a romance it is definitely family-friendly, with hot chocolate and a Lights on the Lake festival, but Aidan has been hiding something - more than one something, which creates tensions. I really admired SNOW ANGEL COVE for the busy start and challenges piled onto Eliza. The story then settles to a more personal exploration of the characters around Christmas time. RaeAnne Thayne is skilled at portraying her characters and inviting our participation in the story, so I hope to read many more stories from RaeAnne Thayne.
