Romance Historical
Lady Adel is completely alone in the world except for her
stepbrother who is trying to marry her off to a womanizing
baron who is rumored to have syphilis. But one night
during a winter storm, Adel's brother has an unexpected
guest show up at his house.
Liam is a captain in her majesty's royal navy and he is on
his way to drop off his three year old daughter at a
convent while he goes off to fight in India. The child's
mother has died and Liam is the only family she has.
Liam comes up with an idea to save both Adel and his
child. Liam will marry Adel and Adel will become the
child's stepmother and take care of Liam's estate in
Ireland while he is stationed in India. This marriage of
convenience seems to be the best plan for Adel, Liam and
the little girl.
The story is interesting because it goes back and forth
between the setting in Ireland, where Adel settles in to
run her husband's estate and India where Liam survives
under dangerous circumstance. When Liam is badly injured
in battle his leg is severed and he is shipped back to
Ireland.
The most intriguing part of the story is when Liam and
Adel
are united. Liam is angry because of his injury and
starts
to drink too much. Will Liam ship Adel back to England
and
her unreasonable brother or will their marriage have a
change to become one of more than just convenience?
I enjoyed the rich historical details of this story set in
England, Ireland and India in the 19th Century. Loretta
Rogers creates realistic characters who suffer hardships
and learn to overcome the worst circumstances that life
has
to offer. I highly recommend LADY ADEL'S CAPTAIN for fans
of historical romance.
SUMMARY
Disinherited by her stepbrother because she refuses to marry as he wishes, Lady Adel Fitzhugh needs a miracle. When a storm drives a coach of travelers to their door, her miracle arrives in the form of Captain Liam O'Shea. Captain O'Shea is taking his motherless young daughter to live with the nuns during his five-year deployment to India. Adel seizes the opportunity to begin a new life, offering her services as governess. Liam accepts Adel's offer on the condition she raise the child at his family estate in Ireland. Fearing that if he dies in battle his daughter will be at the mercy of profiteers, he also proposes a marriage of convenience. If he returns, Adel will be free to file for an annulment and return to England. She agrees but has no idea the task will require all her strength and determination once she reaches his ruined castle and becomes "the O'Shea" to his people. And what if she wants to stay?
