IT'S IN HIS KISS is Book eleven in Jill Shalvis' Lucky Harbor series. As with previous books in this series, the characters drive the story. Becca Thorpe and Sam Brody are both very complex characters with emotional issues that they need to sort out. If you like imperfect characters mixed with a whole lot of sexiness, then IT'S IN HISS KISS is the book for you.
The romance that develops between Sam and Becca is all at once sweet, sexy, and frustrating. It's clear to everyone how much they like and are attracted to each other. However, it's also clear that they both have boundaries and subjects that they refuse to discuss. This is what stops them from total intimacy. It's interesting to watch the journey they both take to getting to that point. I liked the side story of Becca's involvement with the music classes and her struggle with performing in public.
The supporting characters in IT'S IN HIS KISS really shine. I love Tanner and Cole -- Sam's friends and business partners. The scene in which Cole broke down for Sam exactly why they were like brothers was very moving. I look forward to their books in the future. Olivia added a nice bit of interest to the story, and she helped draw Becca out a little more. I wasn't a fan of Sam's father, Mark, but the storyline involving him added more depth to Sam's character and helped define him.
There are some heavy and dramatic moments in IT'S IN HIS KISS mixed in with the sexiness and the fun. I think it's that mix that makes for a richer story. The town of Lucky Harbor feels, in many ways, like another character. The sense of community, in all its wackiness at times, and the way residents support each other make the stories in this series more of an enjoyable experience.
IT'S IN HIS KISS is another character-driven, sexy romance by Jill Shalvis. I look forward to the next installment in the Lucky Harbor series.
