NO IN BETWEEN is book four of the elaborate Inside
Out series by Lisa
Renee Jones, which includes thus far four novels, a group of
novellas from Rebecca's point of view and four other
novellas
from characters Mark, Chris, Crystal, and Sarah's point of
view .
This is definitely a series that needs to be read
in order to be appreciated. That being said, if you
haven't started this series yet, run to grab the first book
and dive in! This easy-reading series is compelling-
sucking the reader into a dark and seductively dangerous
world of art, BDSM, and murder. Rebecca Mason wrote a
series of journals chronicling her journey into BDSM at the
hand of a dominating and domineering Master. Rebecca then
mysteriously disappeared. Sara McMillan discovered the
journals, followed Rebecca's footsteps, and ended up
working for Mark in the same job that Rebecca once had.
Sara met painter Chris Merit through the art gallery and
has become his lover.
Chris and Sara have just reluctantly returned from Paris,
where they fled after Sara's attempted murder by Ava, an ex-
lover of Sara's boss, Mark Compton. Ava originally
confessed to killing Rebecca, but is now recanting and
blaming everything on Sara and Mark. Chris and Sara must
now answer questions from the police regarding the murder
of Rebecca. They are faced with trying to understand what
has happened to Rebecca so they can protect themselves from
the overzealous detectives. Sara also returns to help
manage Allure, the art gallery that Mark owns, as Mark
tries to spend time with his family in the midst of the
chaos while his mother undergoes treatment for her breast
cancer.
Lisa Renee Jones says that this series is, at its core, a
story
about growth and healing. Those themes shone strongly
in this book, and the solidification of one relationship in
particular was particularly heartwarming. While there is
great tension between characters as they come to grips with
their personal demons, the payoff in this book is euphoric,
and it took my breath away. The sexual tension is the book
remains exquisite, paralleling the erotic interludes we've
loved in prior Inside Out books.
The pace is dizzying and frenetic, with clues and
discoveries seeded throughout, as we slowly learn more
about what happened between Mark and Rebecca. The
detectives in the story add to the pandemonium, accusing
one after another of our beloved characters as they try to
get to the bottom of Rebecca's death. The revelations
regarding Rebecca's disappearance are jolting, and keep the
reader off balance, contributing to the whirlwind of action
through the book. NO IN BETWEEN sucked me in, twirled me in
circles with the intricate plot, and dumped me out at the
end clamoring for the next in the series. Write faster,
Ms. Jones!
The fourth in the Inside Out erotic romance series by New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones, this steamy novel resolves Chris and Sara's relationship and leads into Mark's story. Chris and I have faced our demons and bared our souls to one another in Paris. Now that we are back home in San Francisco, I want to believe that nothing can tear us apart. Not Ava’s accusations against me to the police, or Chris's fear that he will destroy me as he feels he did Amber. And not Mark, who was once too intimately a part of our lives, and who I can see crumbling inside out. He believes he is invincible, just as I want to believe Chris and I are invincible. We have to be invincible. We need each other too much for any other ending.
