After watching four of his best friends fall to the
mysterious and terrifying affliction known as love and
marriage, William, Viscount Wivenly knows that it is only a
matter of time before he falls into the trap himself...but
not
yet.
In a last minute escape from the desperate females
vying for his title, Will flees his father's estate in the
night, heading for the coast and a ship that will take him
to the West Indies and more trouble than he has ever known
in his life. Accompanied by his friend Andrew Grayson, Will
sets sail to discover why his great aunt believes that her
late husband's company is failing, when by all accounts it
is prospering. Is greed the real culprit, or could
something more villainous be afoot?
Eugenie Villaret de Joyuse is heart-broken at the loss of
the only real father she has ever known. Yet in the wake of
Nathan Wivenly's death more disturbing questions have come
to light. Why is the company failing now, after years of
prosperity? Why does her father's man of business not want
her mother to examine the books? And why are there two more
strangers on the island snooping about the warehouses?
Trying to discover these answers lands Eugenie not only in
hot water, but a betrothal she both wants and despises at
the same time. Giving in to the inevitability of her
marriage she decides to show Will exactly who she is: a
capable sailor, a teacher, and a rescued-slave smuggler.
Bit by bit the walls begin to come down just as the most
terrifying truth reveals itself too late for anyone to stop
it.
ENTICING MISS EUGENIE VILLARET by Ella Quinn is an action
packed romance filled with intrigue, seduction, sass, and
pirates! It reads very much like a situational farce, and
Quinn plays on that. More than once a character mentions
how much like a novel their adventure is becoming. The
tongue in cheek antics bring a level of likeability to the
storyline that sometimes feels like it is spinning out of
control. There are many plots that need to be kept in
line, including a secondary love story. A few of these
plots get rushed or forgotten at one point or another, but
are all tied up in the end.
The character building in this story is fantastic. Written
as the fifth book in The Marriage Game Series,
ENTICING MISS
EUGENIE VILLARET is easily read individually, with enough
background information to bring the characters to life, and
enough plot teasing to make a reader want to go out and buy
the other four books immediately.
The bottom line is that this book is a fun and adventurous
read for fans of both Regency and Pirate Romance genres.
