China Bayles and Ruby Wilcox are horrified to learn their
friend, Karen Prior, has been mugged. Karen was supervising
two graduate students on a documentary featuring an old
local murder but was this grounds for another murder? China
can't resist digging into the old case. What secrets are
hidden in Pecan Springs?
DEATH COME QUICKLY is the twenty-second book in the China
Bayles series but can easily be read as a standalone. We
see a lot of familiar characters but Susan Wittig Albert
provides enough description that cozy mystery readers can
jump right in and enjoy the story without reading prior
books. As a longtime fan of the series, however, I have to
wonder why anyone would miss out on enjoying each and every
one of China Bayles' adventures!
I love the way herbal use and lore are woven into each and
every China Bayles book and DEATH COME QUICKLY is no
exception. Part of the allure of the series is seeing the
recipes and the unusual uses for various herbs and even
flowers. DEATH COME QUICKLY offers up some fabulous recipes
and I dearly want to try Cass' Rose Petal Salad!
DEATH COME QUICKLY is Susan Wittig Albert at her finest!
Cozy mystery fans will relish the town of Pecan Springs and
the unique shops of China and Ruby. DEATH COME QUICKLY is
highly recommended!
“One of the most endearing and personable amateur
sleuths” (Midwest Book Review), herbalist and ex-
lawyer China Bayles is back. In Death Come Quickly, a
friend’s murder may be the key to solving a fifteen-year-old
cold case…
When China’s and Ruby’s friend Karen Prior is mugged in a
mall parking lot and dies a few days later, China begins to
suspect that her friend’s death was not a random assault.
Karen was a filmmaker supervising a student documentary
about the fifteen-year-old murder of a woman named Christine
Morris and the acquittal of the man accused of the crime. Is
it possible that the same person who killed Christine Morris
targeted Karen?
Delving into the cold case, China learns the motive for
the first murder may be related to a valuable collection of
Mexican art. Enlisting the help of her San Antonio lawyer
friend Justine Wyzinski—aka the Whiz—China is determined to
track down the murderer. But is she painting herself into a
corner from which there’s no escape?
