The battle has come to Seattle and Joanne Walker is the only one standing in the way of the Master destroying everyone she loves....
Joanne has learned a lot about her shamanic abilities over the past year as she has continued to battle the Master. Unfortunately, the Master has a plan in store that could destroy the city Joanne loves as well as everyone she cares about. Will the conclusion of the Walker Papers end in triumph or tragedy?
SHAMAN RISES is the concluding book in the Walker Papers series. I have not read the entire series but I have read several of the earlier books. I would suggest reading at least the first couple of books in order to get a sense of who the characters are and their relationships with Joanne prior to reading SHAMAN RISES. C.E. Murphy helpfully provides readers with a general overview of the prior books in order to remind readers of all of the challenges Joanne has faced over the course of the series.
SHAMAN RISES is very mystical, as are the earlier books in the series. Joanne fights many of her battles in other worlds or planes of existence. C.E. Murphy does a marvelous job at making these scenes both believable and full of tension to keep the reader engaged. We see a lot of Celtic and Native American mythology woven into the storyline and C.E. Murphy does an excellent job at keeping the reader acquainted with how each piece ties together.
SHAMAN RISES is a satisfying conclusion to the Walker Papers series. I laughed, I cried, and I mourned right along with the characters. I can only hope that the conclusion of this series indicates we will see a spinoff series featuring some of the other characters. SHAMAN RISES is easily recommended for urban fantasy readers.
