Mystery

Lady Kiera Darby has just returned to her childhood home and reunited with her brother, when a body is found shot to death at an old Abbey. More shocking than that, a skeleton has been stolen from one of the graves. Kiera knows aiding another investigation could ruin her reputation even further, but her knowledge of anatomy could help solve the case. Now it's up to Kiera and Sebastian Gage, the handsome inquiry agent, to solve the case before another victim is killed. Anne Lee Huber has written another dark mystery with secrets, sabotage, and just a hint of romance. Kiera is a wonderful heroine. She's independent, strong willed, and fiercely protective of her family. She is also aware of her vulnerabilities and insecurities, and isn't afraid to ask for help. These qualities make her likable and relatable. Along with Kiera, the reader will finally get a glimpse into Sebastian Gage's past and will like him even more for it. Gage is the arrogant, handsome detective he's always been, but he shows a gentler, kinder side in A GRAVE MATTER. The Scottish border is a great setting for A GRAVE MATTER. The ancient Abbey is a gloomy and eerie location, perfect for the beginning of a body snatching mystery. Some of the villains in this story are comical and dim witted, while others are dangerous and sinister. The secondary characters are charming and interesting, as are the local Scottish customs Huber sprinkles throughout. The plot moves along quickly and excitement and secrets keep the reader guessing. A GRAVE MATTER is a morbid mystery readers will not want to put down.

SUMMARY

Scotland, 1830. Following the death of her dear friend, Lady Kiera Darby is in need of a safe haven. Returning to her childhood home, Kiera hopes her beloved brother Trevor and the merriment of the Hogmanay Ball will distract her. But when a caretaker is murdered and a grave is disturbed at nearby Dryburgh Abbey, Kiera is once more thrust into the cold grasp of death. While Kiera knows that aiding in another inquiry will only further tarnish her reputation, her knowledge of anatomy could make the difference in solving the case. But agreeing to investigate means Kiera must deal with the complicated emotions aroused in her by inquiry agent Sebastian Gage. When Gage arrives, he reveals that the incident at the Abbey was not the first—some fiend is digging up old bones and holding them for ransom. Now Kiera and Gage must catch the grave robber and put the case to rest…before another victim winds up six feet under.
