LADY LUCK is book three in the Colorado Mountain
series. If
you have read any other Kristen Ashley books, you know what
kind of man and woman you're going to get. The women
are "cute" and whisper their responses. We also get the
stereotypical hero, who doesn't like to use pronouns and
drops all the G's from the end of his words (and so engages
in fuckin' instead of fucking). Ty is even more crude
than most in Ashley's Colorado Mountain series,
throwing out such
charming phrases as "My Mama owes me some pussy" and
musing 'He didn't talk during sex and didn't like his pussy
to do it either.' I find many of her men to be
caricatures, but Ty was over the top in terms of crudeness.
The overall story is good, but I had a hard time enjoying
it given that I was so turned off by Ty. Granted, he is an
ex-con, and the way he speaks elicits the feel of a
criminal, but calling women cunts is not a way to endear
me. So you've been warned. If these things don't bother
you, and you enjoy a book with a He-Man kind of guy who's
been done wrong, LADY LUCK is for you.
Ty has just been released from the penitentiary for a crime
he didn't commit. He was framed by dirty cops, in payback
for winning big at a poker game as a half black man. He
comes wanting a fake wife to act as a distraction while he
is going about enacting his revenge. Lexie is offered
unknowingly up to Ty by Shift, a con who was in business
with Lexie's ex-boyfriend. Shift tells Lexie to show up
and do what Ty tells her. Lexie is expecting to just drive
Ty where he needs to go and drop him off. After meeting
him, though, she agrees to marry Ty in exchange for $50,000
and Ty getting Lexie out from Shift's thumb.
Ty and Lexie return to Ty's home town and Ty sets in motion
his retribution, intending to expose the dirty cops who
sent him away. Lexie decides to be Ty's support and goes
all out in making a home for him where he is happy and
taken care of. Ty has trust issues, though, and manages to
hurt Lexie deeply and repeatedly. Slowly their marriage
becomes a real one, with deep and true love, growing even
stronger through their many tribulations.
There is a lot happening in LADY LUCK, with deep-rooted
corruption in the town that is slowly being exposed and
corrected throughout the Colorado Mountain series.
This book is
long- 650 pages. But there is so much emotion and growing
intimacy packed into the pages that it is a pleasure to
read. The sex is vintage Kristen Ashley HOT. While I did
not care for the hero much, I did enjoy the underlying
story. I'll definitely read the next in the series, and
hope that Ms. Ashley gives me a hero I can love the next
time.
Since birth, Lexie Berry has had nothing but bad luck.
Orphaned at an early age, she had a rough childhood and a
boyfriend who was murdered. Now the beautiful, stylish Lexie
is determined to change her luck and her life. But first
she's got to make good on a promise: to pick up Ty Walker
from prison. One look at the gorgeous ex-convict and Lexie
knows she's in trouble-and already thinking about taking a
walk on the wild side . . .
For five years, Ty was imprisoned for a crime he didn't
commit. Now he wants revenge on the people who framed him.
Yet when the high-stakes poker player sees the leggy Lexie,
he suddenly has other desires on his mind. Realizing that Ty
is innocent, Lexie tries to stop his plan for vengeance and
help him become a better man. But as Ty battles his inner
demons, dirty cops and criminals plot to take him out. Can
he and Lexie find a way to escape the past?
