Women's Fiction

Harmony Stoddard is a young woman starting her life over in Ashville, North Carolina with her 9-month-old daughter, Lottie, as a single mom. Harmony is the product of an abusive father who finally escaped with the aid of her very abused mother. Jan Stoddard has been living with terror and fear in Topeka, Kansas after being threatened by her husband Rex of hunting down and physically harming their daughter if Jan leaves him.

Moving On, a group of women helping other women to escape from abuse, is helping Jan and have been secretly setting up her escape from Rex. News has reached her daughter of the fire that consumed her parents' home the very night Jan stole away, leaving everyone to believe she perished in the fire and Rex is missing as well. In order to protect Harmony and her granddaughter, it is not feasible to live with them but to only let her know she is alive. Jan is eventually convinced to hide with a friend of Harmony's to be protected by the group of women called the Goddesses Anonymous who work to help women like her. Learning to restore confidence and faith in others, her fear is not over when her husband is found murdered and she is being accused. Help comes from those where it's least expected and restores her faith in the human kindness of others to gain a productive life.

NO RIVER TOO WIDE is a story in the Goddess Anonymous novels. This subject, even though extremely sensitive and horrendous, delves into the souls of those trapped in this type of prison. Emilie Richards has an acute knowledge of abusiveness in the home and cleverly portrays this to the reader. Even though this is a subject we all tend to shy from, NO RIVER TOO WIDE is a book I could not put down nor will I ever forget it. An extremely heart-wrenching and emotional read while showing the strength and healing power of women helping women. I can always expect a fantastic read from Emilie Richards.

SUMMARY

Some betrayals are like rivers, so deep, so wide, they can't be crossed. But-for those with enough courage-forgiveness, redemption and love may be found on the other side. On the night her home is consumed by fire, Janine Stoddard finally resolves to leave her abusive husband. While she is reluctant to involve her estranged daughter, she can't resist a chance to see Harmony and baby Lottie in Asheville, North Carolina, before she disappears forever.

Harmony's friend Taylor Martin realizes how much the reunited mother and daughter yearn to stay together, and she sees in Jan a chance to continue her own mother's legacy of helping women in need of a fresh start. She opens her home, even as she's opening her heart to another newcomer, Adam Pryor. But enigmatic Adam has a secret that could destroy Taylor's trust-and cost Jan her hard-won freedom.
