Raven is a beautiful half demon, who lives in a small out
of the way town. Her powers should be a benefit, but to her
step-father Justice, who is the power in the town and the
head of the fundamentalist order that hates demons, they are
a reason to burn her at the stake. That and the fact that
when he tried to touch her in a very un-fatherly manner she
stabbed him in the leg.
Blade is an assassin who is passing through town, hoping to
start life over again. Blade witnesses Raven being taken to
the stake to be burned and witnesses her escape. He follows
her and saves her life. Raven and Blade are then drawn
together in a race to stop her step-father from gaining too
much power and help create a world where half-demons can
live side-by-side with humans without fear by either side.
BLACK DEMON WIDOW by Paula Altenburg is a good story with
excitement, betrayal, love and hope. The only problem I had
with the story was the names of the characters. Every time a
new character was introduced, I actually had to put my book
down and shake my head. It's not a bad story at all, so I
didn't like being pull out of it each time more people were
introduced. When you read it, go in prepared, and it should
be a smoother, more enjoyable read.
Passionate and headstrong, half-demon Raven is nearly
executed on the orders of her fundamentalist stepfather. She
escapes from the burning stake using the gifts of her
otherworldly heritage and the help of a mortal stranger
named Blade. Now she’s set on revenge, and only quiet,
intense Blade stands in her way.
A retired assassin weary of the weight of his past, Blade
has crossed the desert to seek out a new life. His journey
is interrupted when his conscience demands he help Raven
find an old friend who can help her. Saving her from her
need for revenge and delivering her into the hands of loved
ones means he’s one step closer to redemption.
But as Blade’s sense of duty becomes something more and
threats, both mortal and immortal, stalk the woman he can’t
abandon, he could very well fall back into the life he’s
trying so hard to escape.
