As a child Slater went from one foster home to another. Slater could never fit into until Pop took him in. Slater tried leaving Red Hook to try and over come all the demons that tried to take over his life. He joins the service, fought in the war got out and got his college degree.

Slater is called back to Red Hook after Pop has taken ill. He has to go back to help run Pops business and to help out with Pop's new foster child Nickie. Slater is not happy at all to be back. Slater decides to go into the bar to check out what is going on. No sooner does he walk in the door than he notices Rocki singing.

Rocki loves to sing almost as much as she loves to buy shoes. Rocki and Slater meet and even though the sparks seen to fly, neither ones wants any kind of commit. Rocki has a big secret in her life as well as Slater has in his. Both try to keep their secret a secret from each other. Until an accident happens and not only do the secrets come out but also the fact that they deeply care for each other.

Though all their hard times, there is one other secret that comes out that really sends Slater in a tail spin.

Robin Kaye's story really grabbed me. Robin tells the story of not only Slater and Rocki, but also continues the story of Slater's two foster brothers Logan and Storm. So not only do you get to know and love Slater, but also the rest of his family. Very good story line, made me wonder if these two would ever realize that it HAD TO BE YOU.

SUMMARY

The last place he expected to find lasting love was back in his hometown.…

Slater knew tragedy from a young age, but with the support of his foster family, he turned his life around. Now, back from a stint in the Navy, he’s packed up his motorcycle and returned to Red Hook to help to run the family restaurant—a job that comes with a tantalizing upside. Her name is Rocki.

Flirty, sweet, and outgoing, Rocki brings in crowds as the lead singer of the house band. And although she’s unable to resist the charms of this intense bad boy, she refuses to open her heart to him. Until a family crisis shatters Rocki’s easygoing demeanor, exposing something from her past she’d always hoped would stay hidden.

But Slater knows a thing or two about family secrets—and he sets out to prove to Rocki that their relationship could finally give them both a future worth believing in.
