In MIDNIGHT PURSUITS, Juliet Mason is a premier mercenary
and assassin; cold, calm and always collected. When she
discovers her brother near death and his fiancée
assassinated, finding the murderer becomes very personal for
her. The first order of business is to take out the man who
killed the couple and find out who hired him. Juliet
discovers that a cabinet member in the small country of
Belarus is behind the killings. Orlov is systematically
taking out the relatives of other cabinet members in a quest
to weaken and demoralize them in a secret bid to become
president of the country, all while blaming a terrorist
group for the killings. Unfortunately, while taking out the
assassin after getting the information from him, Juliet is
shot twice and severely wounded.
Ethan Hayes is taking a well deserved break between ops for
the mercenary group he works for. His team specializes in
extractions and retrievals. As their groups have worked
together on occasion, Ethan and Juliet are familiar with
each other in a professional capacity. When Juliet is
unable to contact someone on her own team for help, she
turns to Ethan. He patches up the worst of her injuries,
and together they go after the soulless villain responsible
for her brother's death.
Juliet has always known that Ethan was interested in her;
but she is a tough, hard woman, unable to commit to anything
but the most casual of affairs. Juliet soon discovers what
lengths Ethan will go to in order to make her see him as a
man interested in a relationship with her rather than just
uncomplicated sex. As they work together towards a common
goal, their simmering attraction grows; and Juliet finds her
resolve to keep her emotional distance from Ethan weakening.
As with the rest of the books in Elle Kennedy's Killer
Instincts series, MIDNIGHT PURSUITS in an adrenaline
filled, exhilarating ride. The story is a thrilling,
action-packed adventure; as well as a tender story of two
people with dangerous jobs trying to find some happiness,
even when they don't believe they deserve to be happy. Elle
Kennedy has done an exceptional job with this series about a
group of mercenaries doing a tough job in a dangerous,
deadly world. MIDNIGHT PURSUITS, as well as the entire
series is a recommended read for those who enjoy Romantic
Suspense with a dark, dangerous edge. Although part of the
Killer Instincts series with a regular cast of
characters,
MIDNIGHT PURSUITS can be read standalone with no problem.
Her job is to stay hidden. Too bad he can’t
take his eyes off her.
