Amber Wright manages the Amish Artisan Village in
Middlebury, Indiana, which houses an inn and conference
center, a restaurant, bakery and several Amish shops.
Hannah Troyer works in the quilt shop and usually opens it
each day. On the day of Hannah's 22nd birthday, she opens
the shop, but feels something is not right. After a few
minutes, she realizes she cannot smell the coffee brewing
in A Simple Blend coffee shop next door. Sometimes Hannah
fills in for Ethan Gray when he needs to be away. She goes
next door to see why Ethan has not started the coffee and
finds him dead. Hannah can hardly speak or make any sense
when she calls Amber. The paramedics say it is a heart
attack, but Amber and Hannah think something else is
afloat. Ethan's large plate glass window has three BB gun
bullet holes in it. Then there is a series of vandalisms in
and around the Village. Amber and Hannah join forces to
solve this mystery. Can they find who is behind these
bizarre happenings before the Artisan Village's reputation
is ruined?
Vannetta Chapman gives us another delightful Amish
mystery in MURDER SIMPLY BREWED. She uses a plethora of
characters to bring diversification to the plot, which
moves along very quickly. Ms. Chapman seamlessly blends the
Amish and English cultures in this inspirational novel.
Circumstances bind Amber and Hannah together, but the
storms of life can sometimes create unusual friendships.
MURDER SIMPLY BREWED is a story about friendships,
relationships and change. It carries an inspirational
message that time is short; we should savor each day, and
let God lead us through them. This is the first book in the
new Amish Village Mysteries series. Ms. Chapman sets most
of her Amish mysteries in and around this area of Indiana.
All of her works are well-worth the time to read.
When the coffee shop manager is murdered in Middlebury's
Amish Artisan Village, two women from different walks of
life must join together to solve the mystery. Spring has
arrived in Middlebury, Indiana, and Amber Wright is
optimistic about the growing profit from her collection of
Amish shops---until she receives a call that Ethan Gray is
dead. Hurrying over to A Simple Blend, she finds a solitary
hole in the front window and the store manager lying next to
the espresso machine, dead from an apparent heart attack.
All the money is still in his register.
When Amber hires a young Amish woman, Hannah Troyer, to take
over the shop's duties, the two women become fast
friends---as well as amateur sleuths. The police believe
Gray's death is a by-product of vandalism, but Amber and
Hannah aren't convinced. Clues that don't add up, a
neighbor who is pulled into the midst of the investigation,
a town with secrets to hide, and a blossoming romance---all
will combine to push Amber and Hannah into unfamiliar roles
in order to solve a mystery that will once again reveal the
depth of God's grace.
