Much like other women have experienced, successful
songwriter Jenny Collins has had her heart broken. Only this
time, her heartbreak came in the form of singer Caleb Green,
and his betrayal with another woman was all over the
magazine covers. Not wanting to spend another holiday alone
even more than not wanting to return home, Jenny heads to
Chesapeake Shores. While there, she starts to slowly
remember why she used to love Chesapeake Shores, but when
Caleb
shows up there asking for her back, she has to figure out
what her heart is trying to tell her more than ever.
A SEASIDE CHRISTMAS by Sherryl Woods is a perfect book to
read on a beach or while sitting outside on a lazy day,
whether it's during the holidays or not. The narration does
explore very seriously the struggles of overcoming betrayal,
learning how to forgive, and what really makes a family, but
it also is full of humor, sweet smiles, and gorgeous
descriptions. I love how within that, the story primarily
focuses on Jenny and Caleb, but you do get occasional looks
at what some of the other characters are thinking. It rounds
the story nicely and helps paint a bigger picture.
Though this is part of a series, Woods puts in enough back
ground information to keep you clued in. It gives you nice
detail on some of the other characters' stories, and you
don't feel lost or confused during it. However after reading
it, I do want to go back to some of the previous novels and
read what happens for myself, because it sounds so
interesting and well tied in.
Overall, Woods has a way of sweeping you up in the story and
feeling what the characters feel. I felt wrapped in not only
the spirit of the season, but also the spirit of warmth and
happiness that comes from reading a great book. A SEASIDE
CHRISTMAS is not one to miss if you enjoy contemporary
romance with holiday flavor.
As the only child of a single mom, Jenny Collins wanted nothing more than to be part of a large, rambunctious family like the O'Briens. Ironically, though, when her mother married into that family, Jenny found herself feeling more like an outsider than ever.
Now, after years in Nashville as an established songwriter, Jenny's drawn back to Chesapeake Shores to collaborate on a Christmas production...and to make peace with the past. As if that's not challenging enough, Caleb Green, the singer who broke her heart, has followed her to town, determined to win her back.
