Sheriff Andrea Jackson has moved to the quaint small tourist town of Tall Pines to be with her grandmother who took a fall and has refused to move to Atlanta where Andi was with the FBI. Being the focus of gossip because of the desertion of her father when as a child, he moved on for his own selfish benefit leaving Andi and her mother behind. Her mother is now deceased and she has only her beloved grandmother. Andrea has a hard time putting her baggage behind her. Normally a very quiet town with no crime to speak of, this morning promised to be Andi's challenge riddled with a lot of excitement.
Jackie, owner of Jackie's Country Kitchen, is excited and distraught. A robbery of his chili cook-off trophies and contents of his safe has him livid. He and his wife Mona's deepest secrets were in that safe. Of course the all too handsome but annoying editor of the Tall Pines Times has to be present. Having a previous run in with Mark Taylor when she first won the election for Sheriff, trust is a huge issue now and absolutely no information will be dealt to him. Mark offers to help with her investigation by them pretending to be dating, to ward off suspicion from the towns people. Andi is up for re- election, and solving this case may be her only chance at being re-elected against the previous Sheriff, Ray Evans. Her future depends upon this election. Always worrying about what everyone else thinks of her, Andi enters this relationship reluctantly. Before long their "working dates" become more for both of them. As the election draws nearer and no arrest in sight, Andi is torn what to do if she loses her job. Not only will she be leaving her grandmother, but also a man she has come to care too much about. Perhaps time has come for her to finally lay the past aside and get on with what she truly out of life.
This story is a wholesome read with heartfelt emotions and family values important to every individual. Andi has to weigh her home, family and entire community in her decision to turn loose of the past and seek her own happiness. I loved this cute story full of humor, emotion and true caring for the entire community andfamily. This author never fails to deliver! I am an avid follower of this very talented author and read everything she writes.
