Thousands of years ago there were eight. The one called the
Deceiver came to destroy the world, the other seven
followed to stop him. Reincarnated over and over again they
carry on in the battle for the world. FALLING LIGHT
continues where Rising Shadows left off, with Mary and
Michael reunited. Having fought off the Deceiver again,
they race to safety and hopefully to get help, before police
forces catch up with them. The Deceiver has left
destruction and death with fingers pointing directly at
Mary and Michael.
Mary isn't thrilled with this plan, because she is not sure
she is willing to trust a woman who by her own admission
will do anything to finish the Deceiver -- even if it means
killing Michael and Mary to try again in another life.
Michael must decide where he really stands. Is it with
Mary, in this life, or as the alien bent only on destroying
the Deceiver no matter how many lives it takes?
FALLING LIGHT is the second of the Game of Shadows
series. I found this book a little on the dark side with
less romance than the previous books I have read by author
Thea Harrison. It is basically an urban fantasy with
reincarnated aliens fighting evil. There is a lot of
reminiscing of their past "lives" and planning for the
upcoming battle which I found interesting. I really love
the way Ms. Harrison writes, she has you feeling as if you
are right there in the middle of the story. That said it
breaks my heart to admit that I did not get the same vibe
from this series that I get from her Elder Races
series. If you are looking for a darker, more intense urban
fantasy written by a very good author, then FALLING LIGHT is
a book you will want to pick up.
Having finally reunited, and fought off the Deceiver for now, Mary and Michael race up the Michigan peninsula to meet Astra before police forces catch up with them. But the closer they get, the less Mary is willing to trust a woman who by her own admission will do anything to finish the Deceiver—even if it means killing Michael and Mary to try again in another life. As they face their final battle, Michael's loyalties are tested, making him vulnerable just when Mary needs him most.
