SAFE KEEPING is by one of my new go to authors, Barbara Taylor Sissel. This is the story of the Lebay family. Tucker and Lissa are brother and sister. Their parents are Roy and Emily. Tucker has been in trouble with the police before. Now it seems he is in trouble again. The police have found a dead woman on the same stretch of the highway where they found one a year before. A year ago, Tucker was questioned as a person of interest in the police departments investigation as he was the last person to see the woman alive.
Tucker's Dad Roy was in Vietnam and came back after the war suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and has bouts of being back in the jungle. One time, Emily had to go out and left Tucker alone with his Dad. When she came home, she found four year old Tucker locked in a closet and Roy having a PTSD episode. Later on, it was learned that Roy had put a Gun to Tucker's head that day. Tucker has never been the same since it happened. He is always getting in trouble and hanging out with the wrong people. He seems to find girls in a bad way and tries to save them. That's where his troubles start and it goes downhill from there.
Lissa and her husband Evan have been worrying about Tucker but they are also concerned with Lissa. She passed out and has been having terrible headaches. Evan has been trying to get her to see a doctor to find out what is wrong with her and she keeps putting it off. She can't deal with herself right now. She has to help clear Tucker's name. Tucker doesn't seem to think its a big deal and does nothing to help himself. It drives Lissa crazy.
I really loved SAFE KEEPING and read it rather quickly. Barbara pulls you right in from the first page and never lets you go. The way she ends the book will blow you away. I couldn't stop flipping the pages and stayed up way too late for two nights because I had to know how SAFE KEEPING was going to end. What this family goes through will be pulling at your heart strings in no time.
