Forty-three year old Brooke Kincaid is nearing 5 years of
sobriety, and dealing with her bi polar history. Not a
good mother while going through the years of her son Evan's
childhood, they have been estranged for 10 years and just
recently came together again as mother and son. Living in
the cowboy country of Caribou Crossing, she now loves her
quiet and stable life. Delirious that Evan and his wife
Jess have just announced they are pregnant, her life is
full and she is again optimistic, but Brooke's life is just
about to turn upside down.
Corporal Jake Brannon has lost consciousness from a
bullet wound and his bike has crashed into Brooke's fence.
Jake is disguised as a long haired tough guy complete with
the motorcycle attire. In truth he is searching for the
marijuana grow op purportedly believed in this small and
quiet countryside. Jake is working under cover for the
RCMP in Vancouver and vows to find the drug lord and killer
of a 15 year old girl, forced into drug trafficking and
prostitution. The only way to keep Brooke from calling 911
and involving the authorities who may be involved in the
crime is to make her believe he is a criminal and will kill
her and her family if she doesn't keep him a secret as she
helps him back to health. When Brooke finally learns the
truth, they work together to create an alias in order to
shield him and allow him to follow through on his U/C
investigation. It isn't long until they both realize the
sexual pull towards each other which further complicates
their cause and troubles Brooke as she is 8 years older
than Jake. As everything unfolds, their desires are
dampened with reality and neither is sure how far it will
go, especially after Brooke drops her surprise.
Strap yourself in for a journey of excitement, suspense
and hot sizzling sex. Put yourself in the place of this
female character and you will feel the battles she strives
to overcome. This is complete with tenderness, hot sex and
a very explicit lesson on fighting the illness of being bi-
polar. This is definitely a page turner and makes it
extremely hard to put this fascinating story down. This
author is extremely talented in her story telling and
knowledge of the subject matter of being bi polar.
In her latest contemporary romance, Susan Fox welcomes
readers back to Caribou Crossing, the ruggedly sexy Western
town that seems made for starting over. . .
Brooke
Kincaid knows second chances don't come cheap. She's spent
five years repairing past mistakes and making her life in
Caribou Crossing steady and predictable. But now a
stranger's Harley has shattered her fence and her peace of
mind in one swoop. Brooke is drawn to everything about
wounded undercover cop Jake Brannon--his raw masculinity,
his tenderness, and the undisguised desire that makes her
feel more alive than she's ever been.
By rights,
Brooke should curse Jake for complicating her life. Instead
she's offered him a place to heal and a cover story as he
searches for a wanted man. Jake knows she's vulnerable, but
she's also strong, kind, and hotter than hellfire. It's a
combination that could make even a die-hard loner long to
put up his boots and put down roots at last, and show her
just how good a second chance can get. . .
