"Zombie-fighting fun!"

Fresh Fiction Review

Blue Moon

Young Adult

Molly Bigelow and her Omega team have been suspended due to Molly's actions in Dead City. Molly is the newest member of their zombie-policing team, and all of her teammates have remained loyal to her...but she is still keeping one big secret from Natalie, Grayson, and Allen. Molly has to invoke the only chance she has to save the team or risk complete dissolution of the team, which means they are now responsible for monitoring the Unlucky 13, the original zombies of New York City. What will Molly and her fellow Omegas do when they discover that this year the zombies have in store a diabolical plan to take over all of New York City?

BLUE MOON is the second book in a series. It can easily be read as a standalone although both stories are so much fun that I wouldn't miss the first novel. James Ponti does a great job at expanding on the basic concept of zombies being policed by juveniles and gives us a much broader view of the zombie world and the various politics that permeate their world. While the first novel is definitely more a middle grade read, BLUE MOON skips a lot of the angst and dives right into some good, zombie-fighting action.

BLUE MOON focuses on New York City and it was highly entertaining to imagine that there are zombies hiding and meeting in the underground near some of the very famous landmarks. The fast pace keeps the reader flipping the pages quickly, wanting to see what trouble Molly and her friends will find next. One fun twist from the prior novel is that we get to read the journal entries of Milton Blackwell, one of the Unlucky 13, and see an insider's view of how the zombies first came into being. BLUE MOON is sheer fun and is easily recommended!

SUMMARY

Molly is ready for more nonstop, undead action in this follow-up to Dead City, which Kirkus Reviews described as “a fast-paced read for those who like their zombies with just a little fright.”

When Molly Bigelow discovered that zombies shared New York with humans, she didn’t think life could get more shocking. Then she learned that her mother was once one of the greatest zombie killers ever—and she discovered that her dead mother is not technically dead at all (although she isn’t alive, either).

Molly’s efforts to keep these secrets and to help her Omega team track down the identity of the original thirteen zombies will take her from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade to New Year’s Eve in Times Square. Her loyalties to friends and family will be put to the test. And her life will be changed in ways she never could have imagined.
