In HOSTAGE, Luther Brinkman, a private investigator and a member of the civilian psychic agency Haven, has been sent to Tennessee in search of an escaped felon. There's more to this man than he is told and when he is shot, he is rescued by Special Agent Callie Davis.
Callie Davis, a member of Noah Bishop's FBI's Special Crimes Unit, has been in the mountains for awhile with Cesar, her Rottweiler and partner. After rescuing Luther, she and he realize that they are on the same side and begin to work together to bring in the felon. Problem is that there is an evil that is surrounding the man and the area he is holding up in. Is that evil why they were sent in? Bishop always has a way of maneuvering people like pieces of a puzzle so they are where they are suppose to be.
Hollis Templeton, is a medium and part of the SCU who thinks she has a side job with her partner Reese DeMarco to help strengthen her skills. A wealthy older woman is seeking a medium that can get in touch with her late husband. He promised her that if he could he would contact her, but so far no luck. Hollis enters the mansion that is turned into a hotel part of the year to find that there are a lot of ghosts hanging around. Is this another manipulation of Bishop's? Is she here for more than she thinks?
HOSTAGE is a spine tingling paranormal mystery from a writer [Kay Hooper] who knows how to pull off a chilly read. I love the way Ms. Hooper has you reading what you think are separate storylines only to have them merge unexpectedly at the end. There is no way you can guess how the mystery will be resolved it's too complex and that makes it a fantastic read. HOSTAGE is the sequel to Haven, with its introduction of the civilian agency, and brings back a number of people from there and also from her Bishop series. The sections with Hollis and Reese [She has been in several books starting with Touching Evil] gave us a look at her progress while pulling us toward the finale. The affection and psychic link Callie has with Cesar and that Luther begins to have with the dog, adds warm touches to the story. Who doesn't think they know their pets mind and have a link with them? All in all if you are looking for a non-stop read that will have you leaving lights on ... then HOSTAGE is the one for you. I cannot wait for the next one.
